Reset your security settings. They are probably set to "Restricted" zone. Try setting the "Internet" zone. The security settings are in the Tools menu, Internet Options, Security tab.

I take it that "sent me something" means via e-mail. In that case, and assuming you use Outlook Express, open the program, then click Tools, Options, and Security. Choose "Internet zone", then click Apply and OK. Open the problem e-mail.

If the problem still occurs, close the e-mail and open Internet Explorer, then click Tools, Internet Options, Security, Internet, Default Level, Apply, and OK. Reopen the e-mail.

The email you were viewing had some scripting that IE blocked because of your security settings. This may actually be a good thing - there is the remote chance that a bad activex control (a virus?) was attached to what you were viewing. Who uses AX in email anyway - shouldn't we all be happy with plain text?

Hi Butter:
I'd err on the side of caution as Jwooden suggests.
Some Malware installes itself through active-x. (I think Gator is one)

Another that uses active-x but poses no problem that I know of is "Macromedia Flash". Many cute cartoons are done in "Flash"

I'd check with your friend as to what exactly is in the mail you were sent then maybe change your settings or not.
