This weekend, I’ve discovered that Alexa is using her mother’s name on her paypal account and I’m guessing that she is also using her mother’s name on her e-bay account.

The daughter is 24 and the mother (Becca) told me Alexa was banned from e-bay several years ago for bidding on her own items. She had to use an alias to re-register and decided to use the mother’s name (without her permission).

The mother wants this stopped and the daughter says it cannot be done (which we both think is BS). Paypal FAQ says the account name can only be changed for reasons of typographical errors or legal name changes.

I don’t know how to check the user’s real name on e-bay, but I do know her e-bay screen name.

What is the best way to remedy this problem with paypal (without the daughter’s assistance)?

Is there any way to check with e-bay to see if the same alias is being used there?

If its just a similar screenname Alexa is using, with different registration data (her own), there isn't legal leverage on your side. (Example: bob123 on ebay isn't bob123 on MSN, or bob123 on AOL. No bob has claim on any other bob's username, unless he registered a trademark through the US patent office.)

Both usernames and registered name/address info can be changed using My Ebay. You will need the account password to login.

If the PayPal account in question is attached to Becca's email - use the password recovery tool to reset the password.

If Alexa is using her mother's real name AND payment info on the account.... Call PayPal at 402-935-2050, have the credit card being used handy. They take identity theft seriously.
