When using IE6 I can no longer click on a link in an e-mail and have it open. I use a dialup connection through Juno and their browser will open links. But when I open internet explorer and try to read messages from my yahoo and hotmail accounts, links in the messages don't work. My computer was recently hit my a virus and think this is part of the aftermath.

I cannot uninstall IE because it does not show up in my add/remove program. I have tried to repair it by manually typing in a Run command and get a message that it cannot be repaired. So I downloaded the IE6 setup from Microsoft and reinstalled it. Also have downloaded all the latest service packs. Still no luck.

Internet Explorer is set up as my default browser and no internet options have changed. Any suggestions?

Georgia85, there was a long series of posts on this subject some time ago. Please pay close attention to the suggestions by the author TomGL2. Click Here

Having said that, from what you're describing I'm thinking that a System Restore may be your best bet. Windows 2000 does have a "Repair" option. Details are available by clicking here. This is the specific page: Click Here

I hope something here will help!

I wish I could do a system repair Dwight, but I don't have any discs.

Thanks for the link to that post but interestingly enough, I had already done my own troubleshooting which included doing what Tom had suggested. No luck at all, especially since I cannot uninstall nor repair IE6. Best I could do was reinstall the setup and run it again which didn't help.

Apparently, the only way I can correct my problems is my buying Windows2000 software and I'm just not interested in making that investment right now. But I do appreciate your help Smile

Georgia, do you have System Restore disabled? If not, you could do a restore as Dwight suggested: Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, then System Restore.

Are you talking about the Backup option? I can use the repair feature even tho I don't have any discs with software on it? When reading info on Dwight's link it said you had to have a Windows 2000 CD.

I think 2000 has System Restore. Try doing what I suggested above. It should let you go back to a date when your computer was working right. You don't need a disk for that. You can't hurt anything. You can always undo.

I don't believe Microsoft 2000 has a system restore - that is a new feature for XP. But I will certainly try your above suggestion when I get home. Thanks Smile
