I have a sub-domain: http://something.provider.com/ but then I want to use a parked domain for my site so it's easier to remember and also easier to type. I got the parked domain already. Is it possible to use it for a sub-domain site?

Yes just use domain forwarding. It is free with the Aadaleus Energy Web service, but it could cost a few dollars a month at some places. You just 'point' your 'good URL name' at the one you want to hide. The address bar will still show that you are on the server space you are really on, but when someone enters the 'good name's' URL it will go to the specified server.

Try typing in http://alienglassworks.com

It takes you to a website I am building that is hosted through forwarding it to another server URL.

I hope this has helped Smile

I had registered my parked domain to kittyangel.com, but there is an instruction which I do not understand.

It says, "Adding httpd.conf entry for kittyangel.com to point to kittyangel.urlq.com." what does it mean and what do I need to do? Thanks in advance.

my url is http://kittyangel.urlq.com and the parked domain is kittyangel.com. Sorry, I am really new this time since it is the first time I fool around with a parked domain. By the way, the hosting service is one of thos cpanel package. I don't think there are much details I can give you.

You need to point the kittyangel.com address at the other one. To do this you need to go into your domain manager comtrol panel and go to the doamin parking area one of the choices will be "point this at an internet url" choose that and list the hosted domain http://kittyangel.urlq.com as the address. Then a search of kittyangel.com will actually take you to the index page of the other servers site. keep this window open while you do this for reference.

There is no option in the parked domain control panel. They only allow me to add a parked domain or remove a parked domain.

When I added the parked the domain, the full description is showed as follows:

Nameserver ips for kittyangel.com are: XX.XX.XXX.XXX,XXX.XX.XXX.XXX
Created DNS entry for kittyangel.com

Setup Mail forward kittyangel.com -> kittyangel.urlq.com
Setup kittyangel.com OK
Adding httpd.conf entry for kittyangel.com to point to kittyangel.urlq.com

If your IP is X'ed out that is the problem. If your nameservers are not filled in it will not work. The IP for the server with the content is what you need here.

Send a copy of the URL for your control pasnel page to theanswerpool@AOL.com and I will see what the nomenclature is for your server, if I can. Smile

Nameserver ip is not x'ed. It shouldn't be a problem. I did that to cover the ip so it's safer for the service host. I don't know if the provider wants me to display the ips for everyone to see or not.

There is one important part that I don't quite get it.

"Adding httpd.conf entry for kittyangel.com to point to kittyangel.urlq.com"

how can I add a httpd.conf entry?

That is above the root level and I am afraid that I can't answer that. With the Aadaleus Domain all you need is to give the IP of the server or the DNS. This info comes with the registration info on most server packages I have seen. httpd is a log file on answerpool and nothing more so I do not understand why you are being asked to access it. Your sites landing page will be located at www.yourdomainname/index.html" It sounds like you are trying to access operation files for the server that are not part of what you are supposed to alter. I would send a support request to the domain service and tell them the trouble and ask if they can do this for you. Most of these places will do it for you if you have trouble but you may have to wait a bit for them to do it free. Lots of these places charge upwards of 45 bucks an hour to do things if you are in a hurry.

httpd is a log file? hmm...it looks like I have to ask the admin about that. The web hosting service I am using is very new. They started the business only a few months ago. Maybe they have made a mistake or something. Thank again. I guess I really need an answer from them. Setting a parked domain is not supposed to be hard, isn't it? It takes me a long time already and I still can't figure out why it doesn't work. Frown
