I have MSN as my ISP. Received a CD in the mail to upgrade to MSN 8 - where they claim "It's Better with the Butterfly".

Has anyone out there upgraded to MSN 8? Any thoughts or suggestions???

I wouldn't reccommed it personally. I've not used it myself but in my job as internet tech support I've heard nothing but bitter complaints from the customer's I've talked to that tried it. A lot of the complaints had to do with the person's comfort level. When they upgrade things look and feel different and they have trouble locating things. I don't know if it's *that* different, I am only repeating what I've heard. One thing I DO know is that it can be a pain to get rid of once it's installed. Basically, what it does is package a lot of features into one program, similar to AOL. Some people love this, because it's easy and doesn't require thought. For those who prefer things more customized and suited to their needs, it can be a nightmare. Really it's all a matter of what you want.

I think some people just like to complain. I have been using it for about a month now, and I love it! No freeze-ups! No locking up! File/Edit/View are back! And the spam filter is awesome, it uses AI to "learn" what you mean by spam, and filters out those things. For example, it has learned that I don't like mortgage offers or newsletters, and it's diverting all those to the junk mail. The longer you use it, the smarter it gets. It also (my son assures me - he had a hand in its development) has the best parental control feature on the market now. I haven't tried to get rid of it so I can't speak to that. I wouldn't want to get rid of it!

My daughter-in-law, who is quite familiar with MS products, thinks its the best program MS has released in a long time, and so do I.

Kat, why don't you try it out yourself and see what you think?

...I hate what Billy Gates has let his products become. Four words: No R and D...fix it when the customers complain. Sorry, just had to get my 2 cents in. LOL

I don't have MSN, so it's entirely possible (NOT) that I don't know whereof I speak. LOL, again. Good luck.

I think that instead of using MSN, use Netzero (just 9.95 per month) and use all of the free stuff at MSN.com

Save yourself $10 a month!

Matt, I'm no expert, but there may be many reasons why your email loads slow. It's your incoming, right? Is that the only thing that runs slow? I used to have a LOT of slow moving things including answerpool links, but I had my C drive wiped and like someone else said on this forum, it's like a new computer. Well, it is a new computer only 1 year old, but I managed to get it clogged.

I am still loving MSN 8. The only thing I don't like about it is it won't create URL's in email, or at least I haven't found out how. And Jwooden, as a DSL customer of MSN, I got MSN 8 free.

<rant>Here's whats really bad about MSN:
- In order to sell you the service, they lock you into contracts when you buy a pc
- They are copying features that AOL has been doing for years.
- They don't actively fight spammers like AOL does, see: http://tinyurl.com/a04r
- AOL is cheaper for light users ($3.95 for 3 hours see KW: billing)
- Hotmail is Microsoft's way of advertising MSN to you - DAILY
- People just look stupid wearing butterfly costumes. I'll have a can of mace ready if a butterfly blader comes by! (Southern chivalry - I must protect thy neighbors from evil!)
- Have you seen a bug-free M$ product yet?
