If you use the cable company for internet service, what do you do if the cable goes out?

We have a 56K modem that we've been using with AOL, but the AOL service will be shut off. Is there any way to get dial-up service in case of an emergency?

i just use my 56k and aol,
but if you are getting rid of aol,
then you could get another internet service provider,
if you want something free, i think JUNO and NET ZERO are free but i am not sure.

I'm on cable also. I keep a few of the AOL cd's that they constantly are mailing me just in case.

My buddy uses net Zero and you can still get 10 free hours a month. You can get premium hours for $10 a month. It does sound like you have to keep track and stay registered or its an apparent hassle to get into their servers. I us ecable and If your service is similar to mine you can call them and get your bill credited for days lost due to their downtimes.
