I have been trying to get in and down load music from limelight or bear share and have problems to get on line even though have turned off prevx and mcafee firewall and virus scan I do not use AOL was wondering what other solutions to try web to find info on any help muucly appreciated bill_smith 4/18/05

We're going to have to have more information about the connection problem and about your system.

(1) What Operating System are you running?
(2) Are you able to get connected at all?
(3) What type of connection are you using? (dialup, DSL, or cable)
(4) If you're able to connect with the Internet, but unable to get your *P2P music connection, please give us the details.
(5) Have you previously connected to a P2P file share program? If so, can you connect with it again?
(6) Have you scanned your system with an updated anti-virus program? I suggest you use both your updated McAfee and an "online" scanner if possible. http://www.pcpitstop.com has a good one.
(7) Have you scanned your system for "malware"? Malware is spyware and/or keystroke loggers that "infect" your system, sometimes causing connection problems when the winsock and winsock2 registry entries are corrupted. Read more about this here.
Good luck with this and please post answers to those questions if none of these suggestions help.

*** Dwight I am replying tom your questions 1) I use windowsxp home version 2) can connect to bear share but am unable to connect with the search mode 3) I connect using cable 4) have been able to connect before 5)have and do regulary scan with updated mcafee thanks for the info and more would be muchly appreciated

Unfortunately, both limewire and bearshare are full of spyware.

The most likely cause of the lack of connectivity will be a corrupted Winsock file
