After 8 long years, I think that I am going to ditch AOL here soon. I cannot afford to give them my other arm for their rising costs so I think I will say Bye-Bye! It only costs me $20.00 now because I have DSL. But I am moving soon and will have to go back to the old fashioned modem and it will go up to $30.00 Roll Eyes

I thought about MSN. But don't know anyone that has it. I am not really familiar with any of the others such as Juno, Earthlink etc...

Any Recommendations? Thanx Smile

If you want to save a bunch of money you could try Access4Less for just $5.95 a month or Netzero for $9.95 a month. Both are cheaper than MSN and you can get most of the features of MSN for free anyway!

Some things you may want to look into before switching:
- Mail client (such as Outlook Express or Netscape, Eudora to check your mail)
- AIM http://www.aim.com/get_aim/win/latest_win.adp
- Callwave (don't miss calls when online) http://tinyurl.com/952f
- Radio@Netscape, if you liked Radio@AOL this is the same thing for free http://radio.netscape.com/radio/radiosell2.html

How to cancel AOL:
Earthlink has kindly listed the cancel phone numbers of several ISPs (including AOL): http://tinyurl.com/952t

I hope this helps you!

Thank You. Smile

I already have both a hotmail and a yahoo email. I just need an ISP. I remember seeing commercials for Netzero. I will look further into them and A4L.

Thanx again Smile

I just double checked and the AOL BYOA to use with DSL is only $14.95, not $20.00.

You are absoutly right, invj. Thank you. It is in fact only $14.95, I don't know where I got $20.00

But, I still have to pay the $14.95, PLUS the cost of DSL which is like around the $30.00-$40.00 price range a month.

Why should I pay the $15 plus the cost of DSL just to use AOL when I can just stick with the DSL and use my yahoo or hotmail accounts. Seems pretty silly to me.

I don't think AOL is much worth it anymore because alot of the other companys are offereing the same things at cheaper rates.

Besides, AOL keeps having rate increases. Last year, it jumped from $9.99 to $14.95.

Down here where I live, you have to have an ISP or DSL before using any program such as AOL. Otherwise you can't use it.

I saw an ad for Juno or AOL or the other one that said "Additional phone charges may apply." That right there makes me wary. I'd check them out thoroughly before you sign up. In this world, you pretty much get what you pay for.

What "Additional phone charges may apply." means is that if you choose a number that is a long distance call they are not liable. (They can say we warned you) MSN, AOL, and Earthlink all have the same phrase buried in their terms.

You usually don't need to worry about this. If a major city is within your local calling area you should be able to get a dialup number with no toll charges. (Check with your phone company or phone book for details)
