I made a new site at msn groups called PowFun. I'm trying to add a counter to my homepage to keep track of how many people come to my site but I can't get it to work.
bravenet (the site were I got my counter) says to post this to my site:
< !-- Start Bravenet.com Service Code --> <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript" src="http://pub13.bravenet.com/counter/code.php?id=369191&usernum=1084239836&cpv=2"> < !-- END DO NOT MODIFY -->
but when I do I don't see a counter but this instead:
HI Pace-Ace: There are a couple of syntex(sp?) errors in the script as it shows up here on AP. I've fixed it and put it on the following page: Click here
From that page click View/Source and you'll find your code at the bottom. then select & copy and paste to your page.
I did it this way to keep the infopop software from posibly changing it. Also don't want to fool around & put Java script into the pool.
Hope this will work for you Mike b. (AKA Byter)

I feel you have a losing battle here I did the same thing on my home page and it disappeared into nowhere living a vague message like yours And yet I installed another and its working perfectly Think I got it from www.counters.com (I'm not too sure of the right addy) Another free web counter can be found at http://www.nedstat.com/usa/f80012_index.htm This records lots of demographic details All that is displayed is a square blue icon of this size visitors can click on it for info And as a bonus your site with hits is displayed with traffic numbers on the www.nedstat.com pages (like the AP Diamond Awards site) Have to register to get page code via return email.

Byter, I did what you said to do but I don't see anything that says "View/Source" on that page. I see your counter I the bottom of the page.
bedstor, I have already signed up for counters at two different sites and I can't get any of them to work. I hope I don't have to sign up for another.
Do one of you think you could post a counter at my site for me? I'll make you an Asst-Manager long enough for you to add it to the bottom of my home page.
Thanks, -Pace-

Hi Pace I have just put the Bravenet counter on my homepage with no big probs though I had a slight overlap pulling a text box to one side solved this My page are done on the AOL Hometown site I will have a go at "attempting" to get yours installed MUG>ME Tell us how to get into the edits by email if you don't want it broadcasting I'm not familiar with the MSN page setup(Bear with us) if it appears "working" but in an odd position then it'll be easy for you to move it around, to a better position Will do it by about 1PM AP time or 7PM GMT (My time)

bedstor all you have to do is become a member and when you do wait till I make you Asst-Manager then click 'Home PowFun"
You should see an Edit this page under the words Home PowFun on the list of topic's on the left side of the page. Click it and it should let you edit the page. Make sure you post it at the very bottom on that page.
Thanks -Pace-

May not have to do it after all Pace Byter spotted the error (instruction missing) here is your code back (Corrected) It's now identical to mine
< !-- Start Bravenet.com Service Code --> <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript" src="http://pub13.bravenet.com/counter/code.php?id=369191&usernum=1084239836&cpv=2"> < !-- END DO NOT MODIFY -->
What was missing? this..."" Always something small Should work now

I'm sorry to say It's still is not working. All I see is this:
< !-- Start Bravenet.com Service Code --> <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript" src="http://pub13.bravenet.com/counter/code.php?id=369191&usernum=1084239836&cpv=2"> < !-- END DO NOT MODIFY -->
Why do you think it's doing this? Maybe I'm doing something wrong. You might have to fix it on my site.

Pace: Sorry about the misunderstanding. The View/Source I was talking about is at the top of your browser window. Starts at the left saying File then Edit then View.
Just E-Mailed the corrected code, Plain text . Try & copy & paste that, I'll also send it to Bedstor.

Pace~ace: You now have a shiney new counter on your web-page.
It was interesting to note that MSN groups won't allow any java-scrpits to be uploaded to their site. Every time I sent the code they stripped the < script tag.
Why don't you put a link here to your homepage & lets run that counter up.

Many Thanks Byter for sorting that out You and I always seem to get involved with the "long running prob "sagas"" There is no mention on the MSN site(unless its deep in the FAQs) about this scripting restriction I'm sure I saw some Java running in Paces HTML code but it was running OK yet when the Bravenet counter was installed It was rejected. My Home page is made by Hometown off AOL http://hometown.aol.co.uk/ and I have no probs with HTML code installing (Though I rarely use it)Java code runs first time editing pages is straightforward.The MSN page editor has to be used like the "Old" "NO right-click menu" AP system !! Very off putting Where Hometown falls down is that the webspace allocation is small only about 2 meg per screen name If in future I get around to constructing a new webpage I'll look for AOL Hometown type tools and a decent sized webspace(Anyone know of any?)For free
