We have a server for all our files at the office, it has a built in FTP application. I can connect to the ftp using the local address in internet explorer(ftp://192.168.0.8)
But I want to connect to the ftp via a computer over the internet from home. I've enabled port fowarding on my router. I've set the server as DMZ host. I know what the WAN ip is for our router. But it does not connect to the server if I use the WAN ip instead of the local one.
How do I connect to the ftp server that is behind our router?
Note: my router is a Verizon Actiontec GT704-WG and the office server is a TeraStation HD-HTGL/R5
Thank You, Dave

First, be sure to check Verizon's terms of service. In many cases, ISPs forbid usage of their lines for public servers.
The server doesn't necessarily need to be in the DMZ, depending on your network configuration.
Check to make sure the server will allow connections from outside the local network. Your storage appliance may or may not support such traffic.
Your router needs to be configured to route connections on port 21 to 192.168.0.8
Also, make sure that the server ALWAYS uses 192.168.0.8, else you'll have to edit the setting every time DHCP refreshes.
Remember! If you are able to access the server remotely, the entire internet can too! Be sure to use password protection as needed and not store anything sensitive on the public share!!!
