As Murray said, it depends... I have seen viruses that exploit holes in database servers, viruses that corrupt partitions, viruses that delete your audio, video and picture files and then move on to your address book. If you are planning to launch an attack on someone's machine, don't. Using a virus to destroy someone's PC is nothing short of a script kiddie's cheap shot. The only machine I know of that is immune to viruses is the Lindows Webstation. The machine doesn't come with a hard drive, floppy is optional, and boots off a CD. If you do get infected (which would be rare considering it's linux) just reboot and the problem is gone. A nifty idea for people who just use a pc to check their hotmail.
