What might be causing pages to change colors--usually to the same colors (a variety of mustard shades)--while surfing? This happens when changing pages on the same or to a different website.

Bit of a head scratcher here Frown
Sounds graphic card? but it may be DirectX file related?
Need to know what Operating system your computer is running. There is a Post stuck on the top of the Beginners issues Forum which will help a lot Smile

What browser and browser version are you using? Does this happen on a variety of sites, or only one in particular? Need some more specifics...

I have an antique system which is now a hybrid antique system. I have Windows '95 with an IE 5.5 SP2 for Me, and Me dates to around '00. I may have taken out the old IE, which went with the Windows '95, before putting in the IE for Me. As you should know, Microsoft no longer services the old IE for Windows '95 or even Windows '95. The phenomenon occurs even on my Start Page from the ISP and in the Web Editor in which I build my website, anywhere including Answerpool! I already tried getting rid of cookies, files, and history. Have fun! P.S. I know that I need a new computer by now, but a new one might be crazier.

I have to agree with bedstor, it sounds like a graphics card issue, although one thing to try is to Degauss your screen if you are using a CRT

There may well be a degauss button some where on the front of the monitor

Click for a definition of degauss

I concur with Putasolutions
Degaussing is a good thing to do If you can access the onscreen controls on your Monitor
Might be a knob under a panel at the front
the newer Monitors do it automatically when they power up that clicking and Boom sound
If you dont hear the Boom then your monitor does not do an Auto Degauss
and once Doing this stops the tube furring up with dust and reducing efficiency thus your strange colors...Do this job about once per month.
I'm still using the same monitor that I had when I had Win 95 (!) only a cheapo but it has lasted. If you see in a garage sale a monitor branded Belinea or Maxdata you'll be getting a good deal Smile

It's one of two things. You probably have integrated video.. have you cleaned the inside of the computer? It may be caked with dust, and as most dust will conduct electricity.. it could be shorting the chip out a bit.

If it's not that, then it's most likely (as previously said) your monitor. De-Gaussing would be a good first solution. If it's not that, try decreasing the color temperature of your monitor (if you have that option).

For the first time, I opened this little box on the front of the monitor. I was still unable to bring the display down a quarter of an inch. (I have a dark area approximately 1/4" high across the bottom of the screen, below the taskbar, and I cannot adjust it even with the display tools.) Another button just made the screen shake. Was that the degausser? Two other buttons could be used to make the display move around, but it was centered okay, except for a slight tilt southwest. As for the color changes, I will wait and see. It seems that my antique hybrid computer has a monitor with some additional weird affliction(s)!

How does one clean the inside of a computer, although in my case the idea is quite ludicrous?

The button that made your screen shake was the Degausser button

So far I stretched down the display to cover the whole screen. Gee, this is an improvement! The colors changed only once today. Thank you, all.

If as you said the Color only went wrong once since you pressed the button. Thats once too many times. Frown
I say hit the button very other day not once per week as I said earlier Red Face
This will clear the problem eventually Smile(I'm sounding like a Doctor Big Grin)
And the black "border" you mention is supposed to be there! Your screen will look very odd when you use a program that uses the full screen area Red Face
Ideally the border area width (default) is the same size as the toolbar with the Start Button and Clock As you have an Older monitor you'll have no On Screen Display and no Reset to Defaults button Frown
It is only by trial and error you can return the display to its original state,a TV repair man could do it or computer guy...But You won't do any harm by having a go yourself and gain a bit of experience Wink
Only target to aim for the border should be the same width all the way around Smile and parallel not tilted
Tip: Measure some "Finger width" paper strips out and tape them to make a frame (a dummy border)inside the monitor screen this will act as a template to help get things balanced up in lieu of the missing default reset button Wink

I'm afraid it is time to get a new monitor, It's had it's day, it's unlikely to get much better
