Hi there!

I would like, if I may, to make a home page with all of my links so I can navigate the WWW easier.

Presently I have to open my Favorites menue and then go through oh about 100 web adresses.

Kind of bulky, kind of tedious.

I presently am using Geocities web page builder, the problem with that is it always opens up a pop-up ad, and then in the right hand corner they have that banner, window thingy which covers 1/4 of the page.

I would like a free homepage that I can keep off the Public view arena just for my links.

Is this possible?

Cheers

David

Many Internet Service Provides (ISP) include Web space with your Internet Service fee. You might check with your provider and see if Web space is included.

If so, you can use that service at no additional fee and there won't be any advertisements. Also, the address (URL)is usually something like:

http://www.alaska.net/~black/

That makes the page kind of hard for others to find. You can usually specify with your provider that your page not be listed on the "Members" page directory.

You can create an .HTML file containing all your favorites, and make it your "home page". If you structure all the links like

<a target=_new href=http://dwightblackburn.com/>Dwight's Site</a>

they'll even open in new windows instead of replacing your Favorites window.

On rereading my reply, I see I did not make clear that the Favorites page stays on your computer, and is not hosted by a server.

Hmm. Well, failing this option, is there any way I can get another link bar on my explorer?

It's the latest version of Explorer.

I don't know of any way to put another link bar into your Explorer. If you use the "favorites" from the menu bar (not the tool bar) you can drag your individual links into folders. The you can combine similar sites into a single folder making it easier to navigate. Right click on the menu and choose the option "Sort by name" and your list of folders and link shortcuts will be listed alphabetically, first by folder, then by file.

I find that the "Favorites" tool bar is not useful, so I don't even have it appear on the Tool bar.

View/Toolbars/Customize/Favorites/Remove

With the menu bar open, you can drag shortcuts into folders. To create new folders, right click on the Favorites menu and choose "Explore". Then click "File/New Folder".

I'm wondering about your "Hmm. Well, failing this option...". There are two options provided that seem to answer your question about free Web space, and using the HTML to create your links page. Do you want to explore that a bit further?

I hope this helps!

Hi David
So you want 100 Bookmarks saving?for free?
No Problem Smile
Visit www.linkagogo.com
They will let you store 100's on one account and it's private.
I have well over a 1000 links saved Eek
They are displayed in an easy to access personal directory page Looks like a mini search engine
Only difficult to do is know how to save the favorites to file ,and make the program locate and unpack the file for display (sorts automatic) Cool

A local HTML page is probably the best bet. Let me demonstrate by example. Open Notepad, and enter these lines --

<center>
<table>
<tr>
<td width=30%><a
href=http://www.answerpool.com/groupee/forums?a=cfrm&s=669605981&f=157608791
target=_blank>Answerpool Computers</a></td>

<td width=30%><a
href=http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=FH;[LN];KBHOWTO
target=_blank>Microsoft Knowledge Base</a></td>

<td width=30%><a
href=http://www.google.com/advanced_search
target=_blank>Google</a></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td width=30%><a
href=http://groups.msn.com
target=_blank>MSN Groups</a></td>

<td width=30%>
place link here</td>

<td width=30%>
place link here</td>
</tr>
</table>
</center>

Save the file to the Desktop with the name Faves.htm. Double-click the file to open it, and click any of the links.

To add new rows, just duplicate the lines beginning with <tr> and ending with </tr>. Even if you do not know HTML, it's obvious which parts are the actual addresses, and which are descriptive text.

Additional comment to last post I made
All you will have on your computer is 1 hyperlink and a cookie Smile also the file for the saved exported links which (from my own experience) is only a few K big,this can be saved to floppy, and the original deleted.
My (in use now) current Favorites file is about 50k (with about 300 links)
Working the Maths you can put roughly about 29 of these sized files on 1 floppy disk before thinking of compressing/Zipping. That even by my standards of bookmark collecting is over 3 years worth of links Wink
I estimate circa: 29 files x 300 links = 8700 total !!! Eek
