The days of Geocities are numbered. At this time, Yahoo! is no longer accepting new Geocities registrations, and plans to terminate the free service later this summer. (This scene is all too familiar these days)

There are still a number of places to host a website for free or cheap. Below are a few suggestions:

Template-based:
Webs (fka Freewebs)
MySite
Google Sites

Photo gallery hosting:
Shutterfly
Flickr (owned by Yahoo!)

For those with webpage editing software (Apple iWeb '09, Microsoft Expression Web, Adobe Dreamweaver), you may want a free host that offers FTP access:
Fortunecity
Sphosting.com

Domain hosting (not free, but cheaper than Yahoo!):
Doteasy - $25/yr for a domain (.com), ad-free hosting, ftp access, 10 mailboxes included.
Microsoft Office Live Small Business - 1st year free, $14.95/yr afterward. Includes web/email hosting, and domain (.com). Requires Internet Explorer to use editing tools.
