I am learning more about JavaScript and when I run a script in IE7, I always get this message, "To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this webpage from running scripts or ActiveX controls that could access your computer." I am running the scripts that are on my computer, but I don't seem to be able to convince IE7 of that. Anyone have any ideas. I tried turning off the popup blocker and that didn't help. There must be a way to differntiate between my own scripts and online scripts.

Thanks for suggestions.

In Windows IE 7.0, click the tool menu, then the Internet Options. Go to the Security tab and click the Custom button. Enable or disable scripts as you would like. You can experiment with this, then if you wish to reset everything, you can click the "Reset" button to put everything back to the initial start-up default values.

See this picture.

I too am in the process of learning a bit about scripting. It is interesting, but also challenging.

IE will not execute javascripts or AX controls on pages that are stored locally. (On your hard drive)

To bypass it, follow Dwight's instructions. (Which does open a nice gaping security hole, particularly if you use Outlook or Outlook Express)

A number of developers are switching to Firefox. Generally speaking, if it looks good in Firefox, it'll look good in just about any standards-based browser. (Not always true for IE, particularly for CSS2/3 and JS/AJAX)

Yes, I finally decided to go with Firefox 2.0. It works so much better without the hassles that IE7 gives. Also I am writing web pages in an app called Crimson Editor, a nice little free program and then you can open the page in your browser each time you make changes without losing your place in the code. I have about 10 pages ready to go up online soon. But Firefox is the browser for me now. Smile
