The cheapest I've seen run about $7-8.00 a month. The first question is: do you want a nice short domain like "yourchoice.com" (much more expensive) or will you settle for a long one like "http://www.registerhere.com/users/yourname/index.html" for a lot more. Also, it's not how much you pay but what you get for your money.
If you go to your SE and type in "domain name register" you are sure to come up with a good selection.

U're probably confusing that will hosting! 7 or 8 a month is too much! http://8.95domains.com/ gives U a domain and 20MB of hostinng space for eight dollars and ninty five cents like the title suggests! But that's for the whole year and not monthly! So that's 75cents a month!

"For a limited time 1 year of domain registration, renewal, or transfer is included at no additional charge with the purchase of webhosting from Dynaserve*. Hurry, offer ends soon!"
I think its part of the same company! But 8.95 domains is free parking too! http://www.895domains.com is $8.95 for a 1 year domain and 20MB of hosting space! And Dynaserve is $14.99 at the cheapest but monthly! So Dynaserve is $179.88 for the whole year for 25MB and domain with 1 year! And 8.95 domains is $8.95 for the whole year for 20MB and 1 year domain included! So for 5MB it's not worth it!

ivnj - this small print was from the 8.95domains link you provided, *not* the dynaserve site.
from the small print, it looks like the $8.95 deal is for hosting and that the registration is free the first year, but after that it looks like you will have to pay an additional fee for registration.
Hey Doug from Cleveland, too bad about those Browns - wait'll next year...(I've been saying that for years)
You asked about "Domain Name Service", which could mean a couple of different things.
If you mean just to - register a domain name. Eight or Nine bucks a year is about the going rate. GoDaddy, and a couple of others are at that price - and it doesn't matter how long the name is - only that nobody has registered it before.
If you mean DNS usually called "Domain Name Server" but aka "Domain Name Service" for people who want to host their own web site, GraniteCanyon is a free public DNS, Zoneedit.com (my favorite) is free for up to 5 listings, and DYNDNS asks for a one time $35.00. There are a few others also.
Hope that helps...
Good luck

There is no seperate register fee! 8.95 is for both! It says limited time but it's ben saying that for ever now!
When my domain expires in a few months I'll try that and confirm it! And Dynaserve had the same small print! So I wann't sure which...! Actually that is the partner form what I see, but the 8.95 site give the free 20MB if U sign up from there!
As for the name I think 64 charecters is the max! U can't go on and on for ever!
