I get this pop up quite often
Internet Explorer has stopped working, a problem has caused the program to stop working correctly, windows will close the program and notify you if solution available.

Then down in my task bar i get this pop up
Data execursion has closed internet explorer.

The funny thing is it never closes anything i just click it off, but this happens all the time.
Any help appreciated
Thank You

The Setup advice on the page quoted is good
quote:
Select the item labeled "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only". This, effectively turns off DEP for everything else.
(Picture shows what to select) Smile
I've had SP2 and never encountered these errors. Confused

Googled "data execursions" and it came back with this:

http://www.google.com/search?h...ursion&aq=f&oq=&aqi=

possibly, you signed up, somewhere, for a mailing list, forum, website, program, installed some software/game, etc. and the fine print included info you missed? if it was an installed program, especially a free one, and you clicked right through every thing (didn't uncheck any check boxes that would install something extra and didn't completely read their TOS (terms of service), you may have some adware on your pc. also, could be a "drive-by"...a website you visited & added garbage you didn't know about.

don't know what kind of security software you have so can't advise further.

also, i don't use IE; i use Firefox which has WAY more safety features/addons that protect you while surfing. in fact, i only use IE if Microsoft forces me to.

also, check your IE settings. i recommend changing it to "block all popups." you can bypass this by simply holding down the Ctrl button (or Ctrl+Alt buttons) & clicking on the link/button you need.

in IE8:
Tools > Internet Options > Privacy Options tab > choose your desired Settings level > check box for Turn on Pop-up Blocker > click Settings button > at the bottom, check box for "Show Information Bar when a pop-up is blocked" > in the Blocking Level drop-down menu choose High (Block all pop-ups (Ctrl+Alt to override).

if you're still having problems, post back with more info & i'll see if i can help further.

If this popup is for something Useless You may be able to Block it But the Other thing that comes to mind is a corrupt Prefetch cookie and Internet Explorer cookie/s
The Former is easy to Locate/delete With the Latter cookie/s you have to use Windows Search
to isolate and delete
You will have to login again with the Site and New cookies will be Made

Option 2 is delete all Cookies which means you have to log in everywhere
PS The Prefetch folder must be Purged too

bedstor, no offense meant, but not so sure about that Prefetch suggestion.

while there might be an individual prefetch item that's corrupt (not absolutely certain on that, but those have nothing to do with the browser), read this...i did after i got an alert that TuneUp Utilities (horrible, dangerous program, which i uninstalled, along with anything ParetoLogic sells, especially RegCure and DriverCure...can't stress the DANGEROUS part enough) said i'd deleted prefetch items that i hadn't.

about deleting Prefetch items:
http://www.edbott.com/weblog/?p=743

about blocking tracking cookies from marketing sites (3rd party cookies):
http://www.edbott.com/weblog/?p=742

about eliminating tracking cookies:
http://www.edbott.com/weblog/archives/000385.html

i agree about purging the Cookies; i do it all the time & have a Firefox security plugin that fills in all my data for me when i next need to login somewhere because i've deleted my cookies &/or my index.dat while housecleaning.

some kind of popup stopper is indicated & some housecleaning...may even want to purge the index.dat file but that's another story, but will post about this if asked/needed.

hopefully you have your hosts file backed up; if not, it may need a few entries cleaned out. again, a whole 'nother story on how to, but will post about this if asked/needed.

IE8 is set to block all popups except the ones i designate (Ctrl > click to allow one in case i forget & go somewhere besides Microsoft or McAfee).

Firefox is set to block all ads (AdBlock Plus plugin...actually went to one site that wouldn't let me view without ads, so i left), popups (misses a few so i use PopUp Stopper Pro from Panicware)

Chrome is set to restrict how 3rd party cookies are handled...only has allow all, block all & restrict, but no other settings except to delete cookies it shows you. don't see a popup stopper in the options.

anyway, please read about the Prefetch folder, at the first link i provided, before doing anything to it. that's my $1.298 (dollar, two ninety eight cents) worth.

Many Forums use CCleaner from www.ccleaner.com to Blow the dust away and "Speed up" Surfing

In addition I use Easycleaner from http://personal.inet.fi/business/toniarts/ecleane.htm
Which is just as good Here is the front Page /Control panel

Both are User friendly, CCleaner can overdo the cleaning sometimes If certain tick boxes are ticked But If you aren't too sure Shout out and we'll give you the right Combination Smile
Used with a Defrag it speeds up a defrag time a lot if run afterwards
Both programs have several more Tricks up their Sleeves

thanks, bedstor. forgot to mention i got jv16 Power Tools 2009, although it's not free.

really awesome program that holds your hand & explains everything, in detail, every step of the way.

if anyone's interested, you can read about detailed comparisons with a lot of similar programs, here:
http://www.macecraft.com/regis...cleaner_comparison2/

it's only drawback is that it's not free: $29.95. still, i could afford it & it's a really great program.

CCleaner looks like a GREAT free alternative; hadn't remembered that one. i'll keep it in my memory file to direct others if they want a good program that won't cost them anything. thanks for the info!
