There is a forum that I have been visiting at least a couple times a week for the last few years. Starting last week I have been unable to get there. With Firefox I get "Unable to reach server" and with Internet Explorer I get "Page cannot be displayed".

I thought they might have gone offline, but I had seen no mention of it on other related forums that I am registered at.

Anyway, it's still there - I typed in the URL on a friend's computer today and it popped right up!

I have XP Home - can someone tell me what might be going on?

Oh this is the URL that I can't access from my computer:

The site in question seems to be working from my end.

I would suggest emptying your web browser's cache, then try again.
Instructions for Firefox
Instructions for IE

Failing that, try flushing your DNS cache:
Start > Run
type ipconfig /flushdns
Press enter
Visit the site again

If those don't work, the problem may lie with your ISP. Possibly a slow DNS update, which usually fixes itself within 24hrs.

Hope this was helpful!

Is working for me (comes up fast)
Suggest you find the Cookie/s for this site and delete it or Go through Google and see if it losds from there? (try the Cached link too)
3rd option is to install the New Google Chrome Browser and search with that. Displays fast even on a slow connection www.google.com/chrome

Well I tried everything you guys suggested and no luck! I can get the cached front page from Google, but when I click on the link for "forum", it's the same deal - cannot find server!

Thanks for the suggestions JWooden271 and bedstor.

Edit: I just noticed that when I try Internet Explorer I get this message at the bottom of the screen, right above the toolbar:

opening page res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm

I found a copy of that .dll file to download - when I get home this afternoon I'll set a restore point and see how replacing the old one goes.

Another location that can be cleared safely is the Prefetch folder
Copy this into the Run box on the start menu

C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch
and delete everything in the window bar the Layout Configuration file

These files act as "cookies" too
Flushing this folder and the cookies may restore matters?

As regards History all it is in simple terms a saved page to speed up a return to it
Cookies holds Login and configuration details hold things like login info and the Last page layout ect.
The Prefetch file is a configuration file to look at the saved History page

Last Chance saloon Gar
Try a System Restore? Go back about a Month to just before the Last Patch Tuesday (September 8th) and restore from that date (if highlighted) if NO highlight then work backwards in time or if your Restore Points ends sooner then use the First on the list OK?
PS There are New updates scheduled for Tomorrow night
It may just clear the Block on this issue?
