Internet Eyes is an uncomfortable condition caused by spending too much time staring at the monitor (studies show that people blink less often when on the internet than when doing other activities.) Add to that some TV viewing, some reading, and some outdoor activities in hot, windy, dry atmospheres, and you get -- Internet Eyes!.
Besides a feeling of sandy eyes, there can be nasty stuff in the corners of your eyes when you wake up. Some people even get conjunctivitis if they don't deal with Internet Eyes.
The treatment is wash your eyes with special non-drying soaps when you wash your face, use sterile distilled water drops or special 'imitation tears' drops when needed, and blink more.

Anybody know any other cures?

Ohhh, so that's what it is! Thanks for the info. I have to spend all day looking through a microscope as well as at a computer for my job and have noticed that my eyes have felt really dry lately. I wear contacts and have been using a lot of eyedrops.
I will definately take the advice to blink more and see if that helps. wink

Tooooo funny!!!
I've been telling people that I've been hit with a lot of the spring allergies this year!! NOW, even when the pollen, etc. has gone, I'm still left with dry and scratchy eyes!!! I think you may have explained it!! razz That IS funny, but ya, what about a good cure!! Besides deep 6-ing the computer - can't do that!!

A big problem with being on the computer is you actually stop blinking. You are in a fixed stare. To aleviate some of the eye problems try to make a real effort to blink often. Every so often just close your eyes. Your eyes will feel a lot better. It works! smile

Look away from your computer screen periodically and focus on things that are farther away.

Close your eyes very tightly from time to time (just seems to make them feel better).

Get up and do something else for a few minutes every now and then!

If you are a touch typist, close your eyes while typing a paragraph. I am doing that right now...wonder if I'll have any errors?

Actually, I did have an error - my fingers don't know how to find the question mark without looking, and I typed a ">" instead!

Good suggestions from people!

Funny, I've never realized the blinking thing but you're right. I don't blink as much when I'm looking at my monitor. I don't think I have "Internet Eyes" though. Maybe it's because I've always had large monitors. I use a 21" monitor so that I don't have to squint. I think the bigger the monitor the better it is for your eyes. I spend a good portion of my day in front of a monitor, coming on ten years now, so I should be a prime candidate for "Internet Eyes" I wonder if the climate has something to do with it. I live in a pretty rainy and humid part of the country.

Actually Coldfuse, you may be onto something. I hunt and peck when I type. So I look away from my monitor often. That may be what's saving my eyes.
