What can I do to get better quicker? *************************************************** 09-01-02, 12:03 PM displacedNYer Try cough drops with zinc, consume vitamin C (either in vegetables and fruits or in pill form if your throat is too sore), and if you have a very very sore throat try hot apple cider vinegar with honey (1 part water:1 part vinegar:2 tablespoons honey). I'm not claiming it tastes good but its very very effective. You can add a bit of ginger to that if you are also queasy. Good luck and sleep a lot!
09-01-02, 01:57 PM MrSensitive Give yourself two days free from work, school etc.
1 oz. water 2 tablets Alka Seltzer Cold Remedy 1 oz Robitussin CF 1 oz Jose Cuervo (golden)Especial Tequila 1 oz Dayquil 2 Candy Hot Tamales.
DAY 1: In a glass, put in water and Alka Seltzer cold remedy. Wait for tablets to dissolve. Add Robitussin, Cuervo and Dayquil. Mix thoroughly. Guzzle mixture as quickly as possible. Taste will be horrible. Once the elixir is swallowed, quickly chew the Hot Tamale candies. (they not only help kill the taste, but help clear the nasal passages)
Repeat this process a minimum of 6 and maximum of 8 times throughout the day. Remain upright throughout the day (no laying down, though nodding off while upright seems to help). Go to bed as normal.
DAY 2: you will notice an incredible improvement. Take the remedy elixer 3-4 more times throughout the day. Again, do not nap lying down. Go to bed as normal
Day 3: Hop out of bed, stretch out and realize how wonderfully healthy and invigorated you feel.
Everytime I get a horrible hacking cold, I use this remedy. Every time it's the same results. Mind you, I weigh over 250 lbs, so you may have to adjust dosages according to your weight.

09-01-02, 09:52 PM displacedNYer Oy roll eyes Vey!
09-02-02, 07:07 AM Elexina Lots of fluids (especially orange juice and ginger ale) and lots of rest. Curl up on the cough with a good book and the remote control, and don't forget to eat. Pamper yourself, and keep warm. However, if you can't drop out of life for a couple of days, I've found that Tylenol Cold works wonders. But just keep downing those fluids! And keep your chest covered to prevent the cold from decending into your lungs.
09-02-02, 06:12 PM Sandy My favorite remedy is Echinacea as soon as symptoms start. To that I add the zinc lozengers, lots of fluids, and rest, rest, rest. Good luck Clarebear, I hope you feel better soon!

Well, I gotta tell you, my colds feel pretty damned good! I almost hate to see them go! But be careful- the daytime remedies contain pseudoephidrine which can be addictive (being a main ingredient in methamphetamine). That's why I use the liquid- it tastes too crappy to get addicted to!

09-03-02, 05:01 PM DvdGStwrt With treatment: bed rest, over the counter remidies for the symptoms, etc. it takes about 14 days to get over the cold.
Without treatment it takes about two weeks.
In other words, the cold will run its due course.
Note, there is no treatment that treats the cold virus itself - only treatments to lessen the symptoms.
Sorry.
