I have been on yachts and ferries before and never had a problem with sea sickness, but that was always only for a few hours with reasonable weather. I am going to take a 3 week trip on a ice-breaker soon, and would like to know any alternative remedies for sea sickness, just in case?

I have horrible seasickness which saddens me because I love the ocean and boating so much. One thing that made me feel better once was fresh ginger crushed in ginger ale. The captain of a tour yacht made this for me once, and I sipped it slowly; it helped ease my nausea. I think once you get past the initial seasick feeling to a point where you don't feel so bad, you'll be over the seasickness. I think it has something to do with your inner ear and balance, but I'm not certain. Anyway, you may just need to tough it through a couple of days and I'll bet you'll feel better on your own. Just in case, bring along the ginger ale and some fresh ginger. Have a safe and exciting trip!

Drammamine is effective. But I never care for it becaused it had a burning sensation as it was going down. I did try another brand (sorry I can't remember the name) and did just as good without the burning sensation.

Something else I have heard of although I have never personally tried it. Saltine crackers are supposed to be good for sea-sickness. I remember when my daughter was very young and was sick, the Dr. always told us to feed her saltine crackers when she was nausciated. And I guess it works the same way in dealing with seasickness.

I hope you enjoy your upcoming 3 week adventure.

They make a bracelet that you put on your wrist for nausea. I have seen people use it when they are pregnant but I believe it is for sea sickness. You can buy one at Walmart in the Pharmacy section. I think it is called something like sea bands.

Also I just remember that when I was pregnant they told me to drink Coke syrup when I was nausated. Not just Coke. I think you can get it at the drug store. I never tried this because I had gestional diabetes.
