Every morning I wake up stiff and sore, mostly the fingers, toes, wrists and knees. The cause is Mr. Arthur Itis mixed with changing weather (rain. cold, damp etc.) Not so much sore as stiff - And of course the wide variety of pops, creaks and snaps.
I am reminded of the Tin Woodsman frozen in the forest forever holding up the axe ready to chop at the tree. At least a lovely little lass came by and used the oil can on him...
I tried the Glucosomine - the liquid stuff tastes like - well I never tasted anything like it before - its one of those things you toss to the back of your mouth hoping it won't touch your tongue. I tried Knox gelatin packs mixed with fruit juice - both of these in an attempt to keep the knee going for a few more years.
Neither seems to affect morning stiffness. Nor have they done anything for the morning creaking and popping - heh - heh - heh Snap crackle Pop - might work for a breakfast cereal but I can scare the cats with some of the loud pops I get.
I tried Ben Gay (He is a worthless smelly guy who warms me in the evening but by morning is nothing more than a greasy residue) We tried the electric blanket - I toss it off in the middle of the night because I get too warm. Besides which it is not muscular stiffness it is joint stiffness.
Are there any remedies for this annoyance?
David
PS if you thought I was going to talk about somthing else, that's on you **************************************** 11-08-04, 02:28 PM Dixie Osteo Biflex (glucosamine/chondroitin) works for me. It is a tablet and took about 3 weeks to start helping.
11-08-04, 03:47 PM Georgia85 David, over a year ago I was diagnosed with a neuropathy of the peripheral nervous system. I had muscle pains and stiffness. A co-worker recommended the product and I tried it. I've been taking it for 6 months now and I've also been off my prescribed medicine for that same amount of time. My neurologist studied the ingredients and it was his opinion that there were no harmful ingredients and it "certainly wouldn't hurt to take it." It is a bit pricey but it does dissolves that stiffness! If you decide to try it, the first week you need to "load" your system with it by taking one capful for every 75 lbs of body weight (check directions, might be off slightly on the weight). After that first week you just take one capfull a day. It's powdered form and you mix it with water in the enclosed larger cap. It has a slight berry taste.

------------------------------ Osteo worked wonders on me... Finger joints; toes; ankles and everything else... Use the tablets and take 2-3 per day for the first 2 weeks, then you can go to onece a day... It does take almost 2 weeks to take effect... I recently dropped off for a couple of weeks, and could really tell the difference...
Ya know sumtin? "Growing old is not for sissies".................

11-18-04, 03:30 PM doñadiana I was just reading about the wonders of apple cider vinegar. It is supposed to be good for curing just about everything that ails you. Have you tried it?
Supposedly "a daily cocktail of one teaspoonful of apple cider vinegar, one teaspoonful of honey, and a glass water, taken twice a day, puts the acid crystals (that cause arthritis-like pain) in solution so they can be flushed out of the body through the organs of elimination."
This is "folk medicine" but when all else fails........
DD 11-18-04, 07:33 PM jusork Did you really have to title this thread 'Morning Stiffy'? I thought it was going to be a question about your BEMHO.

Yes I did have to make the subject 'morning stiffy'. I absolutely had to, there was no way around it a gun was held to my head and frankly if I don't make it humorous sometimes I would just cry.
I am presently working on a Subject to go with:
"The Manx Ca" "A tale of two kitties" "What to do about my big mouth bass, Tard."

That sounds a bit sour.
As a kid my Father and my step mother went back to nature, one of the things some quack with a little black box that diagnosed me with things to come - like far later in my life - prescribed 3 tablespoons of Cider Vinegar a day.
At least this one is sweetened up a bit.
May I ask where you been reading up on it so I can read too?
Thanx
11-19-04, 10:05 AM doñadiana My husband has trouble finding a blood pressure medicine that doesn't give him some kind of bad reaction. The other day someone he knows said to take ajo and vinegar every day (no honey mentioned) to lower the blood pressure.
I had picked up some little booklets at the checkout counter of the supermarket many years ago about the virtues of ajo and vinegar (as well as olive oil and beans), so I dug them out and found that this is an old folk remedy that is supposed to be a cure-all for many things. I expect that if you "google" vinegar and ajo you will find a lot of sites that will give you all the low-down.
The only draw-back that I know of is that vinegar is hard on the teeth and you need to brush or rinse right after drinking it. Also, I don't know that the honey serves any purpose other than to make the drink more acceptable so it could be dispensed with if necessary.

11-19-04, 11:27 AM wzlwmn David, if you can get ahold of homeopathic remedies, RHUS TOX. is indicated for morning stiffness, if you would be interested in trying that. It is called the creaky gate remedy because once you get moving it is bettter. I personally have had good results with homeopathic remedies. Correct discrimination of symptoms is important, but if I had morning stiffness--which I do--I would try Rhus tox. If you have not used homeopathic remedies before you may want to find out about dosing yourself to make sure the remedy is most effective. Let me know... Wzlwmn
