I have thyroid disease (thyroidectomy in 2001) and this causes depression. I can't take antidepressants, because they cause me seizures.

I have read that reducing the amount of chemicals you are exposed to can help elminate depression. I already use only vinegar and baking soda for regular cleaning, but still use chemicals for dish soap, clothes, etc...

Has anyone information on this topic? Before I invest in natural alternatives (which are infinately more expensive) or open a chemistry lab to make my own, I need to learn more.

Thanks!

I don't know much in terms of reducing chemicals such as laundry detergent, etc., but have you considered some of the alternatives to medications for aleviating depression? There are a number of herbs and even flower essences (and aromatherapy) that may be an option for you. Visit

depression.about.com/library/weekly/aa051799.htm

This site seemed to have quite a bit of info - and if you just search out there on the internet, I think you'd find alot.

I also think that diet could definitely help - I'd do some looking into that as well.

Hope this helps - even just a little.

just a note on the herbs for depression. stay away from st. johns wart. it is a fad drug that dosent really help and can cause SERIOUS side effects if it reacts with any drugs you are taking. if you do want to take it stop any medications you are on for AT LEAST 3 months so they arent in your system. TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR first.
