My siter-in-law sees a chiropracter who recommends all kinds of supplements for different things....She gained a few pounds the last year or two and the chiropracter told her to take Iodine...that it helps regulate thyroid...that I know is true...but what is a safe dosage and will these pills really make enough of a difference to even bother? Right now she is taking 17 pills daily...not sure of the dosage of each pill.

tell her NOW to take all the supplements, pills and formal meds she is taking and talk to her doctor.

Also, a pharmacist can tell her if any are interacting.. they are very med savvy... but he'll need the WHOLE list.. better yet, all the bottles.

Thanks Sher.....I was under the assumption that most people had enough iodine in their diets unless they were from some third world country...Since the chiropracter is the one who sells these I just don't want her wasting her monet or worse having some weird or dealy side effect...I know the only regualr med she takes is a daily inhaler for her asthma.

Actually, being iodine deficient is, according to my doctor, an international "side effect" of of having become more sodium conscious and of the popularity of sea salt and other non-iodized salt products. (we had this discussion not long ago because I actually consume too little sodium in my diet and, in turn, there is too little iodine in my system)

Supplements can be good, but the doctor who recommends them has to know ALL of the supplements, medications, vitamins, etc. that a patient is taking. Supplements and vitamins are tough because not a lot is known about effects and interactions.
Definitely suggest that she take all of her medicine bottles to her primary doctor and ensure nothing is conflicting or interacting. Advil, NyQuil, etc. should all be considered in this discussion.

Thanks guys....I don't mind supplements but when a chiropractor is pushing them like that and recommending so much it just makes me feel uneasy...I did a little research and while iodone CAN regulate thyroid...thyroids are touchy and iodine can also slow it down...which she doesn't want...I passed on the info to her so now she needs to take action...Thanks again
