When you have a Spanish expression like "(no) creer que", why do you use the subjunctive in the subordinate clause for negative main clauses but the indicative in the subordinate clause for affirmative main clauses?
Thanks!

What does the subjunctive mood imply about the action? That it is not a fact, but uncertain. So, when you express belief that an action is true, you use the indicative. When you negate that belief, you negate that you see the action as a fact, throwing it into the realm of uncertainty. Conversely, when you negate doubt (No niego, No dudo, No hay duda), you are saying that the action is a fact, and place it in the indicative mood.
