Could someone help me, por favor? I’m supposed to be making a diorama-type-thing of a house for Spanish class and my dictionary is very confusing. I’m not sure that I got the right translations for all of the words, but I know for sure that I’m missing the part where it tells me whether the word is masculine or feminine. Some of them I knew, but I would rather not guess and be wrong. Could someone tell me whether it should be “el” or “la” for the following? I added what it’s supposed to be in English, just in case I’ve really screwed up:
tapete de mesa (the rug/ carpet) solar (the floor) television (the, uh, television) comedor (the bedroom) reloj (the clock) dragon (the, yeah, the dragon) huron (the ferret) jabale (the boar) jaula de pajaros (the birdcage) casa del munencas (the dollhouse) galleta o bizocho (the cookies) Oh, and can anyone tell me how to say “meerkat” in Spanish? Right now I’ve got “el mero-gato” and I’m not thinking that’s quite it. Thank you! |

tapete de masa is a table covering
la alfombra = rug el pisa = floor la televisión = tv el dormitorio = bedroom (comedor is dining room) el reloj = clock el dragón = dragon el hurón = ferret el jabalí = boar la jaula del pájaro = birdcage la casa de muñecas = dollhouse las galletas = cookies Meerkat is Afrikaans...a language of its own. So I wouldn't try to change it into a Spanish work. A meerkat is a type of monkey so use either el mono for monkey or el meerkat |

Just an addendum to Georgia's post (and I thank Karrow for allowing me this), but televisión is an Anglicism...better to use Televisor for the set itself. Meerkats are related to the mongoose, not the monkey...just say meercat. In some places galletas are crackers (saltines) and biscochos cookies. Biscocho can also mean biscuits.

Interesting comment about the Meerkat...Merriam Webster states:
Etymology: Afrikaans, from Dutch, a kind of monkey, from Middle Dutch meercatte monkey, from meer sea + catte cat, but then later states it is a mongoose. |

Just one little correction to Georgia´s post.
El piso, not el pisa. All the others are perfect! |
