I saw smallpox
The only other thing and not strictly a disease
And begins with S is Starvation (which did decimate communities)

Bedstor, nothing in my question refers to a disease that starts with an "S". It was just a coincidence that the first three mentioned were starting with an "S" and it was pointed out by Georgia. Smile

The mental illness suffered by King George III which many believe was caused by Porphyria.

The King insisted on the stamp act as well as other measures that the colonists saw as unacceptable. George III obstinately tried to keep Great Britain at war with the rebels in America, despite the opinions of his own ministers, and that was just crazy.

The Bubonic Plague. It decimated the peasant population which lead to the Peasant Revolt which lead to more insistant for religious independence which eventually lead to the Puritans leaving England. (yea, it's a stretch)
