Hi Bedstor,
Whitehaven is to be the first place in England to switch off their analogue signal to be replaced by a purely digital service.
Digital Lifestyles

Hmm..it says October 17 in the above article, and in Wikipedia. I take it some parts of that town were switched off early?

This page may make some sense of this changeover (scroll down to see schedule)

The Selkirk transmitter has been the first to go based in Scotland then I Imagine 1 by the sub transmitters (those that cover sheltered reception areas)Its Very Hilly and theer will be quite a lot to reconfigure
quote:
Last quarter of 2008:

Selkirk transmitter, serving the Scottish Borders.

Second quarter of 2009:

Caldbeck transmitter, serving Dumfries & Galloway, Cumbria and the Isle of Man

Question Who has drawn the lot to be switched off First in North America Roll Eyes and Are there any Schedules to switch off Analog Nationwide Fully? or will it be retained in some areas?

Bedstor, help me out here !
I am being pedantic, and I realise this. However, your original question said October 1.
I checked your link...there's a ****** countdown clock, showing 16+ days until the day the town you mention switches over. That's still October 17, by my reasoning.

I am still trying to understand a question that asks "what happened" tomorrow.

Thats strange some of the UK Sunday papers (and Teletext)today have the date (Running articles on it) I said and I'm going with that Info. Yet as you saw there is a different date posted on the Web which is a few weeks later
Here is a partial coverage reception map of the Whitehaven area ,and it has the later date

Maybe the information was syndicated and the date was lost so they knew it was October and a Monday...why not the 1st? and it got by the subeditors as fact(not checked) Frown

1 diddy fact 1 transmitter changed over 1,159 transmitters to go Eek

Yes Bedstor, pretty amazing that we won the war wasn't it, considering the powers that be can't even agree on what date is on the calendar? Wink
