Business.com was recently sold for a staggering $8 million making it the most expensive domain name in the world. Previous record holders include Compaq who paid $3.3 million for the altavista.com name.

Tricky, tricky Mozart....you were testing me to see how well I know facts about the company I work for. I withdraw my previous answer because.....BellSouth (where I work) and SBC went in together and bought the domain yellowpages.com back in Nov. We spent over 100 million for that domain which makes THAT ONE the most expensive Big Grin

The one strength that everyone pointed to was the unaided recall of the YellowPages.com domain name (some particularly snarky folks went so far as to call this the first $100MM+ URL buy, dwarfing Idealab's Business.com buy).

"In November 2004, SBC and BellSouth joined forces to purchase the domain name and company YellowPages.com for around $100 million. Prior to the sale, the most expensive domain name ever sold was business.com which sold for $7 million at the peak of the Internet bubble."

Well not yet at least! But come Oct first when this new site is carrying our listings and our site is no longer up there is no telling what will happen to my job. You know, I measure traffic to our site. I won't be measuring traffic to yellowpages.com - they will have their own traffic person. I might be standing on the street corner holding a sign "will measure your traffic for a money" Big Grin
