Nope...

Ruthenium is from the word Ruthenia, which is the latinized form of the word Russia.

In the past it has been applied to territories inhabitted by East Slavic speakers, but over time it has come to apply to a certain area also known as Carpathian Ukraine.

Could it be Samarium? That is my best guess, but I found it be to be named after a Russian scientist.

Nope, not samarium either ...

The word samarium comes from the samarskite (a mineral), which , as you said, comes from a Russian engineer's name (V. E. Samarskii-Bykhhovets).

Yup - nickel was originally called "Old Nick's copper" (kupfernickel, in German).
