If Wiki is right his Engine #2 design was never built until the one in the London Museum was completed in 1991. What's the difference anyhow ? Razz

Yes,it was finally made in 1991.His plans contained a secret.There were two significant errors therein and the engine would never have worked were it built to them.He put the errors in deliberately lest anyone copied the plans. A thief could not make a working machine but Babbage could produce a working example and assert a patent. Smile

It wasn't built in his time, but only because he ran out of funds.
