Seriously They are both rare these days
We nearly all went over to VCRs & cassette recorders to do the same job

Betamax was a better system, from a technical point of view. It still exists. It's used by professionals e.g police and broadcasters. Unfortunately VHS got a bigger share of the domestic market. In Britain that was because the rental companies used that system: when people stopped renting the VCRs, on the prices coming down, and bought their own machines they bought VHS.
