I think the first steam locomotive to haul passengers on a public railway was named "Locomotion". This happened on September 27, 1825 on the Stockton to Darlington line. It was driven by George Stephenson who I think was also the builder.

Georgia,

I came up with England's George Stepheson's train named "The Rocket".

Same person, different event. "Locomotion" was the name of his first railway train. And it was the first train to pull wagons (filled with coal and flour) down the line. That happened in 1825 - my goof! Thanks for the clarification.Stephenson
