Why was the references to "H2O" crossed out from chemistry books by the Ottoman Empire in the early 1900's?

Because the rather spacy Sultan thought that H2O could be seen to mean "Hamid the Second is Nothing". (My source : the book "The Evolution of Evil" as found on Google books results)
