On this day (Oct 6th) two automotive legends became one. Who were they and what year was it?

This one's worth a gazillion kudos to anyone that can answer this without using a search engine.

The only two mergers I can think of, are those between Studebaker/Packard and the recent Mercedes/Chrysler...

I believe The Duesenberg was involved with a merger, but don't remember the other company or year, without the benefit of a search engine.

Ford and Jaguar, Ford and Volvo, Ford and Aston Martin,

We're gonna give this one to Sailracer for pegging the Duesy as one of the marques in question. The merger of the two automotive legends was that of Duesenberg and Cord (along with Auburn) on October 6, 1926.

I could do a brief summary here for everybody but much to my pleasant surprise I found that the History Channel had already taken care of that for me when I dropped in to their site this morning.
