During the fifties, most cars had bullet shape objects on the front bumpers that protruded outward, and they had a nickname....
What was it ???

It was called in the Uk an "over-rider"
They were put on bumpers on cars in the Uk until the beginning of the 70's

Have no idea about the UK, but here in the US they had a "nickname"...( in other words, they were nicknamed after someone)

They were called "Dagmars" you said they were named after somebody (I could not find out about that)

Dagmar, for those who don't know, was the early TV days version of Jane Mansfield...In other words, a very, very busty creature... big grin

The name Dagmar Bumpers (and Dagmars) was a direct reference to Dagmar (born Virginia Ruth Egnor), an early 1950s television personality who was as well known for her pronounced cleavage as she was for her dumb blond character on the program Broadway Open House. Dagmar's physical attributes were further enhanced by low-cut gowns and the shape of her bra cups, which were somewhat conical. While Dagmar's appearance may physically have been provocative, her dumb blond characters seemed to mute the physical appeal of her body.
