If you use the metaphoric image of space being a "Black Dress", then, yes, Bailey's Beads DO go with a black dress! Near the beginning and end of total and annular eclipses, the thin slice of the Sun visible appears broken up into blobs of light: these are known as "Bailey's Beads". http://www.crystalinks.com/bailysbeads.html

Got it, er, them, Sher! Named for British astronomer Francis Baily, Bailey's Beads are caused by the irregular topography of the moon obscuring parts of the sun as it enters and emerges from behind the moon during a solar eclipse. Sometimes, if there is just two moon mountains blocking the sun, a "diamond ring" appears. Sher's link shows both. Good Link, Sher!
