Which fingernail(s) grow the fastest on humans ?

I had heard once that the middle fingernails grow the fastest...don't really know how true this is tho!

JT, I have had this question at two different Trivia contests, with two different answers. The first time, we guessed the middle finger. We were wrong, they wanted the ring finger. The next time, we wisely remembered that it was the ring finger. "Nope," we were told, it is the middle finger. Neither place provided a reference. Can you provide one? All I have ever seen on this is the question and answer, and that was in a Trivia site, notoriously bad places for facts. Thanks.

DG, After some searching I come up with the fact that the longest finger's nail grows fastest. Maybe it's not the middle finger.
