Sometimes you just don't know what to call those 'do- dads'

Got an E-mail, that I wanted to send on, but it had a thousand or more of those little 'crows feet' or less than/more than symbles or 'brackets'.

Went to Google and typed in every name for those little bugger's I could think of, but Google and I just couldn't communicate - so here I am asking you guys to point me in the right direction.

Isn't there a thingie in Word2000 where you click on the down arrow and a menu opens up and a window where you type in your -'< >' and then in the 'replace' window you leave it blank .......

I've dropped down every menu and opened every title but can't find that 'clean-up menu'

help!!

Kleo .. 8^(

I dislike them too Kleo Frown
especially when on forum where they have to make a copy of the previous posting(s) in the thread Frown A bad habit (looks untidy) Mad
The AOL equivalent is to put a thick blue vertical line down the left side of the text in email(slightly better Roll Eyes) but it persists with the other method on the internal message boards Mad
I have got into the habit of copying and pasting any relevant quote like on this site, and tacking on my observation Smile Not copying the entire topic, threads and all into 1 posting! Mad Eek Looks ugly and unreadable if the topic is heavily subscribed to Frown

PS Name for them? How about Daggers? Seriously I think there is a term for them something like hooks? Roll Eyes

Thanks guys – that was what I was looking for.

Methor – when I seen your message I could read it right away – because my Italian born in Argentina wife speaks 4 & ½ languages, but hardly English, so I’ve become quite good at short-hand.

But for the ‘newbies’ that may read this – let me add a few things.

Whatever you are going to copy – place your mouse pointer at the start of where you want to start ‘highlighting’ and do a left click.
Move the mouse pointer to the end of the article – hold down the ‘shift’ key and do a left click. (the article is now ‘highlighted’ and ready to ‘copy’.
Do a right click (within and on the highlighted area) Menu opens. Do a left click on the word ‘copy’ from the opened menu.
Now from your ‘quick-launch’ bar (at bottom) do a left click on the ‘W’ which is the Word2000 icon. (Word opens up – with indicator flashing).
Place your mouse arrow close (or anywhere on page) and do a right click. Menu opens - - from that menu do a left click on the word ‘paste’. [Your article is now ‘pasted’ into the work area.] - [You will notice it still has all those little ‘crows feet’ looking things - < < < - that you want to get rid of and your so mad!!]
From the top left (on the tool bar) find the word ‘Edit” – do a left click – menu drops down. Find the word in the drop down menu ‘Replace’ and do a left click on that word. A window opens up.
It is the “find & replace’ window info box. [The replace tab will probably already be activated and ‘on top’.] It will have two address windows in it. One is titled ‘find what’ [If the window is not already activated/blinking – then do a left click inside the address window to activate it.
Insert the ‘crows feet/chicken track’ looking things found on your keyboard – on keys ‘comma & period’ from the bottom row.
You just have to type in one character. Leave the ‘replace with:’ window empty. And left click on the middle button ‘Replace All’
And Wa-la, all are gone. Clippie will pop you up an info balloon telling you how many ‘chicken track things’ were removed.

Highlite and copy/paste your article back into your Compose Page of your mail system - click on send - and you've just made someone happy!

Thanks to Bedstor and Methor, I can once again face the world. 8^)

UmUm in the medical world and I believe in math, too, those things stand for "greater than" (>) and "lesser than" (<). I've always heard them called "brackets." If you can't do it any other way, copy/paste into your word processing software and do edit/find/replace.
