Because of some computer problems, I had to uninstall Internet explorer 6.0. My system reverted back to IE 5. But now when I went back to my outlook express e-mail, my address book disappeared. Where did it go? I mean, it is blank. All of my e-mail addresses are gone! I want to cry! Are they lost in my system somewhere, or did the uninstall ditch them for life? **sobbing tantrum**

Angela:

address books are saved on your computer with the .WAB extention. Try this:
Start-find-file/folders then type in *.wab this should show any address books still on your system.

I'll have to think a while on how to restore if you find it. Anyone else got any ready ideas? confused

Ah ha Found it big grin

If you've found your old address book try this:
Start OE then TOOLS / ADDRESS BOOK When Address Book opens then FILE / IMPORT / Address Book. Then browse to the folder you found previously ,SELECT then OPEN.

That should do it Good Luck

If you want to open these type of files outside of outlook express you'll want to use WAB.EXE.

Try this: Right click the ??.wab file you found then select OPEN WITH. If WAB isn't on the scroll down list then select OTHER; Browse to C:\PROGRAM FILES\OUTLOOK EXPRESS\WAB.EXE. Then OPEN.

Now back at this window make sure to put a check mark in the box that says "Alway open with this program" then OK

It is a good idea to periodically back up your address book and/or messages. Good answer on restoring the information. File > Export (or Import) will work just as well from the main OE screen as from the address book. I like to back up this information as both a WAB file and as a text file. File > Export is also a good way to back up your IE bookmarks.
