Do you have Powerpoint on your PC? You are unable to view this slide show unless you have the program - or - the Powerpoint viewer. It's a free download.

I wonder if there is some confusion about terms here..."I am unable to download...".

Do you mean that you cannot open the file that has been downloaded?

When you say "stuff people send" do you mean an email attachment?

If you are unable to download a file, then forgive my post and ignore the following.

If this is an email attachment, try doing this:

Click on the email attachment and save it to your system. You may need to right-click on the attachment and choose "Save As" from the menu depending upon the email program.

Once have saved the file to your system, open your PowerPoint program and then click the File menu --> Open command. Navigate to the Save location on your system and see if the file will open.

If you get the same problem (that is the screen just closes) you may need to run a repair on the PowerPoint installation.

You can do that in the Add-Remove programs utility which is in the Control Panel. Select the Microsoft Office installation and click the "Change or Remove" button. Choose the "Repair" option. You may be prompted to insert the Office installation CD into the CD drive.
