It seems like in these days of ‘man on the moon’ & Dick Tracy’s ‘wrist TV’ that someone would have figured out how to remove all the ‘Fwd’s from Yahoo’s mail when you want to send a cute poem with animations on to your friend.
In Yahoo mail - when you click on the ‘forward’ button/menu drops down - you have two choices. If you send it as ‘inline ‘ text - - the picture doesn’t go.
If you chose to sent it as an ‘attachment’ Yahoo attaches it between your address windows and before your body window. You have no chance whatsoever of removing the long list of ‘Fwd’s that’s gonna show up on the other end. [giving the bad guys a list of email address to send more spam to].
Is there a work-around to this problem?
Thanks

I think a simple work-around would be to save the attached image file to your computer, and attach it to a new mail message. Then just copy/paste the original message text into your new mail message. This way your recipient is receiving a completely new message, with the attached photo and text but no "extra" former recipient addresses.

How to copy/paste

Open/Save attachments Outlook Express

Open/Save attachments Yahoo Mail

In addition to sending a completely new message, you may want to edit the document a little. Forwarded text emails can be full of annoying <<<<<< marks.

If you have a long list of forward lines that look like:

<<< If you have a bunch of forward
<<< lines with these annoying <<
<<< marks, there is an easy way to get
<<< rid of them. Dwight showed me how to
<<< do this a long time ago. I think I used Word
<<< but since I don't have Word on my computer
<<< anymore I will show you how to get rid of
<<< these <<<<<'s with notepad which is
<<< accessible by going to your Start button,
<<< and clicking accessories. Notepad is in the <<< list of options.

Open Notepad
Copy and Paste the text in Notepad box.
Click on 'Edit'
Scroll down to 'Replace'

In the Find What: space type the symbol <
In the Replace with: space don't type anything (you leave it blank)

Click Replace All

This will take all of the <'s away. You can then copy the clean text and paste it in your email.

When I copied and pasted the above text and replaced all the <'s, I ended up with this:

If you have a bunch of forward
lines with these annoying
marks, there is an easy way to get
rid of them. Dwight showed me how to
do this a long time ago. I think I used Word
but since I don't have Word on my computer

If anyone else wants to explain this another way or with another program besides notepad please do. This trick is very helpful. I use it often. Smile

Clarebear, I am glad to learn that. But, when I went to Edit in Notepad, "replace" wasn't there. I found it in Word though. Thanks.

The "Find/Replace" function of Notepad is only available in newer operating systems. WinXP, Service Pack 2 has Notepad version 5.1 which does have the Find/Replace tool. The Windows 98 version of Notepad is Microsoft 98, 1981 - 1998 and does not contain the Find/Replace function.

WinXP Pro also has the new version...I'm not sure about Win2000 and WinME.

By the way, older versions of Wordpad also contain the Find/Replace tool...at least my old Win98 does. Wordpad is usually found at:

Start/All Programs (or Programs)/Accessories/Wordpad

You can download an enhanced free notepad program at this link.

Kleo2x, I might have it figured out. When you get to Yahoo mail, go up to Options, then to General Preferences, then check "email in color and graphics." I think then you should be able to forward w/out sending it as an attachment. You should also be able to remove all those forwarded addresses.

kleo2x, when you click on forward and it brings up a new box with the email you want to forward, you can drag your mouse over all the addresses, left click and highlight all the things you want to delete, and click delete on your computer. This will delete everything you highlight and don't want to forward to someone else, such as email address. It doesn't really get rid of all the <<<<< stuff unless you spend the extra time to highlight and delete those too, but I think that would take forever. This cleans up forwarded emails, and elimates everyone's addresses for others to see also.

becca, in Yahoo mail, you have a choice in General Preferences to choose to send email in plain text or color and graphics. I think Kleo has checked plain test (that is what u get automatically when u first get the email acct). When an email is forwarded, it can only be sent as plain text or as an attachment. If it is sent in plain text, you can erase all the clutter. But, when you want to send something like a picture, you have to send an attachment and all the clutter goes with it.

When you go Mail Options, then General Preferences and pick Colors & Graphics, the problem is solved. The clutter can be erased and all the colored things with different fonts, etc. can be forwarded just like they were received.

I just figured it out this week. That has been a puzzlement to me for months.

emailStripper, available for free from http://www.papercut.biz/emailStripper.htm
this will remove all the >>>>>>>>>>>
Rather than hit "forward"- copy the mail you want to send, run it through emailStripper, then paste onto a blank email screen- highlight all the unwanted stuff on the page, delete it, and you will have a nice clean copy of the mail. The graphics are also wiped out with emailStripper, so I just copy and paste them from the original to my draft.. As I indicated in my profile, I am crotchety and I hate "nasty" mail with all that crap so that I have to wade through it to find any actual message. I feel like if anyone really cares about passing on something to me, they should clean it up first!!
