At one point I managed to save some of my email folders, but they have the extension .dbx, and when I open them it says "unsupported format." I can choose another format, but which one?

Anyone know what this means?

Thanks.

Well, Fishie, what commands do you give to save to a disk?

Thanks

Open Outlook Express, then click File, point to Import, and click Messages. Select the e-mail program and version from which .DBX files were saved. Choose "Import ... a ... store directory". Browse to the drive and folder containing the .DBX files. Select the e-mail folders you want to restore. Click Finish.

Thank you, my dear Tom. I don't know if XP will let me do this (before when I clicked on OE it took me to MSN 8 mail as that's my default program). I'll try it, however.

Ok Catty this is what I do to save messages to floppy.

1 - right click on the tool bar in OE and click customise
2 - from the menu click on the floppy disc icon < click add then ok > this has put this icon on your tool bar.
3 - Put a disc in your floppy drive.
4 - highlight the message you want to save
5 - click on disc on the tool bar another box will open
6 - click ok once you have selected destination file at this point you can also rename the message and it will save the message as an .EML file on your floppy

Thank you, Koi, I will try that.

Woops - won't work. When I click on OE it takes me to MSN 8 mail. But thanks anyway.

Cattywampus:

If you remove MSN 8 as your default & use your Internet Explorer Icon to get into MSN 8 you should be OK.

To Reinstall Outlook Express so that it boots-up independent of MSN, you have to reinstall IE6SETUP since Outlook Express is bundled with it.

To do this, type IE6SETUP in your Address Line, when on the Network, & press Enter & follow instructions on the screen.

Did this resolve your problem with the DBX condition when you reinstalled IE6SETUP?

If it did, then you can use Koicarp's answer posted @ 11/29/2003, 09:28 AM to save E-Mail to a Floppy Disk.
