I need some urgent help here. I just opened up my Windows Mail contacts list, and all of my contacts are gone!!! I had around 100 of them and can't find them anywhere... not directly from WM, not from the hard drive, nowhere!

Does anyone have any idea what could have happened? I'm really freaking out here!!!

You're calling this Windows Mail Contacts but we will need more information. Is this an Outlook Express account? If so, try clicking:
1. Start
2. Run
3. Type in
wab

4. Click OK

If the address book is the Windows Address Book used in Outlook Express, this will open it.

If you're using Outlook, this will be more complicated. Please let us know what email program that you're using and if you're using a mail service like Yahoo or Hotmail please let us know that, too.

I'm using the "Windows Mail" client that comes preinstalled with Vista. It's not Outlook Express but looks very similar. I tried searching for the file like you said, and found it, but there are still no contacts in it. It's not the end of the world if I can't get them back... just a VERY VERY VERY big pain.

Thanks for trying Dwight!

I've never had a go of Vista ,and I never use Windows mail off my computer XP (use Gmail instead)

Anyway I've had a prowl around and there is nothing on the subject bar 1 posting on another forum and that said the contact list maybe switched off in the MSconfig box..

As Vista has different programs working to XP
it may be worth a peek?
quote:
"are you sure" types prompts-> Start->Run->Msconfig->Program Tab->There's an option to Disable xx (i forgot the name) (it's right underneth the enable the same thing option)

www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=62268

Also the Management service (Administrative Tools)in the Control Panel will have a duplicate control ,if Vista has the same Type Program Layout as XP) it will be flagged as disabled this is easier as doiing it from the other program sometime is 50/50 Frown
If the names the same then check Services then look down the List and see if the Windows Mail item/s Have Stopped,Disabled, Manual or Stopped against the Entry

Ideally it should say Started,Automatic only OK? Smile
