Does anyone ever look at their Bulk mail folder? I usually just "empty" it. Well tonight I decided to check it out. There was an email about one of AP's new site. I wondered why I never got mail from AP. My email provider must have decided that this was something that belonged in bulk mail. I'm going to check the bulk folder to make sure there not putting other emails in there that I would prefer to receive.

Does anyone know how yahoo decides what's "bulk mail"?

I always delete my bulk mail without opening it, because I only get bulk mail at Yahoo. I did open a couple, and it was so much info about music from Epic Records. I thought that's why it was bulk, because it's so big. My main mail is Outlook Express, and no one knows my Yahoo address but Yahoo, so it has to be associated with them. I hate Yahoo mail and the only reason I got it is because my Compaq homepage defauted to Yahoo homepage.

Honilov-
You can change that homepage to whatever site you wish. Click Tools/Internet Options/General. There should be a header in that window named Homepage. Change it to the url of the page your prefer.

Di, do you mean that I can just type in another one and click apply and it will automatically start going there? I know I could try it to see but I want to make sure before I undo what's already there. Thanks

I have a yahoo account also but hardley ever read my email there. I just checked and I have over 700 in my inbox & 8 in my bulk. Roll Eyes A search on their website answered the question of what a bulk mail folder is.

"The Yahoo! Mail team implemented a filtering system intended to radically reduce the amount of spam you receive in your Inbox by directing most bulk messages to your Bulk Mail Folder. This filtering system (called SpamGuard) is automatically activated and a Bulk Mail Folder is generated when you receive a message that our automatic filter determines was sent in bulk."

Thanks esencia. I didn't realize that. I'm going to check the bulk folder now and then to see if they are sending other mail there I may want. I was wondering why I never got any emails from AP.

Info for Honilov
Really easy to make a New Home page on Internet Explorer
Right click on the Internet Explorer icon ,click on Properties
on the First page (top box) type in the web address of where you want to start when you open your browser or if you are already viewing it Click the "Use Current" Button
Then click on the "apply" then "close" buttons to save and exit the page
Then next time it will always start on the saved page Wink
I have mine to start on www.Google.com which is a good access point to 99% of sites
Esencia has said what I was going to say about Yahoo's email service
I should add that they do have a "Block" and "send for review" controls and if you think that it appears in your Inbox and you think it should be called Spam then you can "Flag" as "This is Spam" to be diverted hopefully Roll Eyes into your "Bulk" email box next time
And the process can be reversed if any "good" mail has been dropped in here
I have over 100 messages Mostly Offers and Spam
I send all my rubbish onto my Yahoo address
BTW Open an account at WWW.Lycos.com this has a similar setup If you know your way around Yahoo mail then Lycos is Childsplay
Send "All " your personal mail to one email address and use the other for competition entries ect
You can write your email address as :HonilovNOSPAM@yahoo.com and any genuine emailer will delete the "NOSPAM" and send using the remaining script.Works best on a "New" account. Can also make the Nospam thing work like this Honilovx@yahoo.com (Spot what I did?)"Deliberate" typo (make your own up) then you will have next to nothing Spamwise in your inbox Smile and have only genuine email

Hi Honilov-
Yes, that is what I mean. I've had Yahoo, MSN and a couple of other's automatically change my homepage and this is the way I changed it back to my ISP's site. I keep it there as I have another "filtering mail service' thru them and I check it out daily. They catch a lot of spam, etc. but once in a while there is mail I want them to transfer to my OE acct.

Or--you can follow Bedstor's directions above.

Thanks Bedstor and Di. I'm gonna change because I hate Yahoo homepage and mail page. Compaq must have a merger with Yahoo, because it defaulted without my help. Frown

Yes this happens a lot. There were about 150 members who used an outside ISP email and did not receive the notices about the other sites due to an expired account or invalid email address or opted out of site emails. Everyone should try to remember to update their profile whenever this kind of thing comes up so they will be informed of latest site news. Just think if you had missed the news about the million dollar winner! Wink

I almost never get spam, even on the one generic email address I use for subscriptions/web purchases. I read EVERY TOS/Privacy Policy of any site that wants my info and make sure to click/check any opt out/opt in links/boxes.

I just posted in computers about the recently upgraded MailWasher, here: http://www.answerpool.com/groupee/forums?a=tpc&s=669605981&f=294601891&m=9536013732

Really great program.

It prevents the email harvesters Mad from using it as "Their" address Aol and Hotmail are rife with this activity Frown
They "grab" the address and target it for Spam
if there is that deliberate typo inserted then it Bounces unless there is an email address with that combination (1000000 to 1 shot!)
There is another way I know of preventing it happening that is to put "Stop word" characters in the address EG. Instead of nerdqueendeluxe@yahoo.com
try these(The email engine will reject them all Wink
n@rdqueendeluxe@yahoo.com
nerdqueendeluxe.yahoo.com
nerdqueendeluxe@yahooo.com
nerdqueendeluxe@yahoocom
Well?(Many more I can dream up)
Have to alert the genuine sender what to alter to make it work properly.
Spammers don't do manual "quality control" altering addresses to suit, they copy & paste in bulk,in other words they "hit & hope"
The less "real" addresses they get the less hits they make. Razz
