Is it possible to get rid of that "warning you are going to a site outside hotmail" line? It takes up a lot of real estate on the screen. Obviously that is Billy's intention but I could do without it constantly being there.

gatman:

I've got a Hotmail account that I use regularly, but I never go to the site.

I've got my Outlook Express set up to handle my Hotmail account (along with 2 ATT.net ISP email accounts).

Here's how:

1. Launch Outlook Express.
2. Click on the "Tools" button up top in the menu bar.
3. Click on "Accounts" near the bottom of the drop down menu.
4. Click on the "Mail" tab.
5. Click on "Add" > "Mail...".
6. In the Internet Connection Wizard, on the first page, type in the name you want to show on your outgoing mail; Click Next.
7. Select the "I already have an email..." circle.
8. Type in your Hotmail address; Click Next.
9. Select "HTTP" from the "My incoming mail..." drop down box.
10. Select "Hotmail" from the "My HTTP mail..." drop down box.
11. "Incoming mail..." window should say:
http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp (this isn't a link, it doesn't go anywhere); Click Next.
12. Type in your Hotmail email address in the "Account name" window.
13. Type in your password in the "Password" window and check the "Remember password" box; Click Next.
14. Click Finish.

When I set mine up, Hotmail was in there as a default (Windows, Outlook Express, MSN, Hotmail...go figure).

Let me know if you have any problems.

I forgot to mention...

If you've got a free Hotmail account, you need to go to the site & sign in & out at least once every 30 days or you'll lose your account.

Thanks Sonnet. Such a detailed answer I'm sure it will work. Are the emails then stored on my hard drive in addition to the hotmail web memory? Are they mixed inwith the mail from my other addresses or seperated somehow? Thanks.

Sorry gatman, I hadn't checked back.

It's a little tricky; OE doesn't give you the choice of leaving messages on the Hotmail server & in OE (it does with other email programs - there's an extra "Advanced" tab that lets you choose to leave messages on the original server for xx days, or not). Once you delete a Hotmail email from OE, it disappears from the Hotmail site Inbox, forever.

I found this out the hard way (I accidentally deleted all my Hotmail messages from OE)...luckily, I have Incredimail & this does offer the option of leaving messages on the Hotmail site. They were gone from Hotmail, but I still had them in Incredimail.

Hope this answers your question. I'll make sure and "Pop" this in case you've got another.

Thanks again Sonnet. I'll have to check out Icredimail. I just find it annoying as all get out to see that damed butterfly everytime I click to see a link. Also when you save a page to favorites - I want the site but not that butterfly. grrrr

I didn't completely answer your last question:

1. OE DOES save your emails to your hard drive
2. The Hotmail email will be listed separately; almost as if you have 2 Inboxes.

If you have, say, 2 email accounts from your ISP, they'll all go in together in the regular OE Inbox. You can set this inbox up to show which account each email is from by right clicking on the column header (where it shows From, Subject, etc.), choose Columns, then you can add/remove the columns you want. You can even change the size of the columns.

Hey, Sonnet, if OE saves my emails to the hard drive, where can I find them so I can print?

Thank you.

Sorry I took so long; I was up at my uncle's, all day, removing the Worm Klez virus, installing (and teaching him how to use) new virus & utilites software so he won't have any more problems.

Anyway, to your question:

If your emails aren't in OE, where did you put them? Did you delete them?
