There’s a sucker born every minute says P.T.Barnum.

I had a young fellow from ‘Nerd’s on Call’ come to help me with the problem of my Email disappearing.

I can read about 15-20 E’s then the screen goes blank. About 4 hours later the mail is back on the screen and I read as many as possible – then ‘poop’ – screen goes blank.

This fellow from Nerd’s On Call probably knows 20 times more than what I do, but he didn’t know how to fix this problem.

Anyhow he wrapped it up in about an hour and said “that’ll be 85 $’s”.

I think the answer to my disappearing Email is to change to a new account.

My wife has no trouble with her Email – on the same computer and the same (Yahoo) mail provider.

Thanx for letting me cry on your shoulder.

Hey Kleo2x, what do you say ...let's just fix or solve this problem?

In order to fix it, we'll need some details from you. First, your Operating System is? (Win98 2nd Edition if I remember correctly)

Second, does this "screen goes blank" problem occur on any other site than your Yahoo Mail? Do you remain on any site or any particular page for an equal amount of time as with the Yahoo Mail page? "About 4 hours later the mail is back on the screen..." Can you use your computer to do anything else while the Yahoo Mail is blanked out? Can you successfully visit another site?

"I can read about 15-20 E’s then the screen goes blank. About 4 hours later the mail is back on the screen and I read as many as possible – then ‘poop’ – screen goes blank." Kleo2x

As you can probably see from my questions, I'm trying to determine if the problem you're having is a hardware issue with your system, or if there is a software issue, either with your browser program (which I'm assuming is Internet Explorer) or if there is an issue with the Yahoo Mail Page.

If you're willing to take some time and provide us with details about this problem, I believe that we can find the answer for you.

I hope this is of some help!

Dwight … I’ve got a:
GenuineIntel Pentium® processor
P2-350
256.0 MB of Ram
40 gig. Maxtor hard drive
Windows 98, 2nd.ed 4.10.2222A
Explorer 6

system resources: 68% free
(CSmile Properties/General, Capacity 38.2 GB ; Used 1.22GB; Free space 37.0 GB

Mail options/General preferences/ inbox set at 25 per page on screen

Disc clean up, Scan disc and Defrag (drive C) 18 minutes.

Free InterNet Eraser cleans Cookies, Temp and Temporary files, History, Documents, etc., on startup.

The problem: When reading Email. After read 15 – 20 (no set limit) the email screen just goes blank.

AOL is my provider to get on-line. (Paid for by my son-in-law in Arkansas), But I use Avant Browser to pull up Yahoo mail. My wife uses InterNet Explorer to pull up Yahoo mail.

And yes – only on my mail system is the only place that this happens.
It’s just that the mail disappears out of the ‘panes’. The left pane where the ‘inbox’, ‘draft’, ‘sent’, ‘bulk’, ’trash’ is also empty.

Everything else works. I can still get to my ‘compose’ page, address book, and ‘send’ and Mail options.

And yes the rest of the computer still works as I surf to Langa-list, World Net Daily, Google or where ever.

My wife’s Yahoo mail works fine. Same Yahoo mail system, same computer.

When the guy from ‘Nerd’s On Call’ was here, he found that after the mail disappeared - - he went into mail options/preferences and changed the limit of E’s per page from 25 down to 10 and the mail popped back up. [that was a surprise to me], but as soon as we hit the ‘delete’ button after reading a few - - it went ‘poof’ again.

In the past I have ran across town to the library and their machines (on cable) will pull up my mail whereas my machine on Dial-up would not. (after it gone blank)

I emptied my mailbox yesterday there and have only gotten about 22 junk E’s since then.
So far nothing has happened. It seems to happen after I read the first batch of E’s and start pulling up the E’s from what would be the 2nd page.

At the bottom of the message page it tell you ‘first/previous/next/last’. I have sometimes hit ‘next’ (page) or ‘last’ (page) and the message box goes blank. [If I have opened a message by ‘right- clk’ 'open in a new window' then I have a ‘tab’ on the task-bar and can then right-clk and close the blank page and it goes back to message page one. I work with that till it goes ‘poof’ again.

I now have four letters in to Yahoo’s Customer Care Center. No answer from them.

If the problem can’t be fixed – someday – I’ll get a new account under a new name.

Thanks much, Kleo2x

My money's on it being a corrupt cookie.
I have the same setup Yahoo Email and access via AOL
The clue was where you said your wife could access and you could not. Confused
The Info for your wife is carried in a tiny file separately to yours.Normal symptom is you cannot access your email account rarely does it show as a "bug"
To fix this ,open Internet Explorer if it's on your desk top select Tools>Internet Options, or right-click on the Blue "E" and click on Properties(on the menu)
This brings you to the Internet Options Page
There are 3 groups of buttons.
The center set: "Temporary Internet Files" has 3 buttons Press the left hand button "Delete Cookies.." then press the Apply button underneath.
Now log on again to AOL then through to Yahoo.
You'll have to manually log on everywhere until the Cookies have been regenerated Unless you are running Roboform?
You'll find that your Yahoo account will now function! Wink
Ps Even if you log off the cookie remains unless it is deleted after the session (by instructions in Internet Explorer set-up) so the same info is accessed many times if that is faulty? then the "fault" continues Frown

I suggest you try using Internet Explorer to access your Yahoo Mail. If that browser works correctly, then I would guess the problem is in the Avant Browser program. In that case I would suggest you try a program re-install. In the Control Panel "Add-Remove" programs, select and remove the Avant Browser. Then download and re-install the browser program. Avant download page

If the switch to Internet Explorer does not help, then I would guess there is a corrupted cookie file (as suggested by Bedstor above) or a corrupted Temporary Internet File. If this is the case, try deleting the Temporary Internet Files folder and the cookies. In Internet Explorer, you can click the "Tools" menu and then click the "Delete Files" button.

I hope this will help!

Confused Bug on Server.Couldn't access any of the help addresses Frown went looking around the forums ... Nothing ConfusedGmail is still on Beta so new bugs may still come up Roll EyesGreat email program though (Details here)
I did a routine Temp file clearance for another Program Had a slow window prob. And this always cures it Smile Then I returned to Gmail later on expecting much more of the same... Frown
I logged on and Surprise! It brought up the correct page Wink
What I think the problem was caused by was a corrupt Javascript instruction on one of the Temp File Pages that Gmail needed to work Hence the misdirect Smile I'll remember that for future reference Wink

Bedstor and Dwight:
The going to tools/internet options/Temporary/delete seemed to correct the problem.

Dwight suggested changing from one browser to another to see did the problem still exist and the answer to that was “Yes it did in my mail system (only) no matter which browser I was in.

But both of you were right - it must have been a corrupt temp. Internet file.

I’ve got a check mark in ‘delete temporary files on shut down’ AND I’ve got a (?) file, (Bat. file ?) that is supposed to empty the Temporary’s on start up - And I’ve got the Free Internet eraser to erase on start-up. So why do I sometimes go there and find page after page of Temporary files?

The check mark in ‘delete temporary Internet files on shut down’ has never, never worked.

Thanks again, but don’t go anywhere, I’m sure I’ll be right back 8^)

The answer is because as a "buffer" it must handle several dozen requests so some stay some are deleted even a minutes work will generate several of these . The trouble starts when 1 misloads and does not delete as planned and an Identical one with the same name is made and they both look for the same place Hence a conflict and the program crashes or whatever? Red Face
Sometimes the Internet Explorer Cache fails to flush then the computer slows down sharply or crashes Due to the cache size being set too small or too large ConfusedDon't worry over that That only wants adjusting if you have bad resource percentage problems? Wink
