I can not get my E-Mail to function. It has been a recurring problem, I get it to work. It functions for about a week, & then it craps out on me. Nothing I do seems to make it work continuously.

Can anywone help me with this problem!

I have my E-Mail set up on HTTP with the server:

http://oe.msn.msnmauil.hotmail.co/cgi-bin.hmdata

as indicated by my correspondence with MSN.

I have Windows 98 2nd Edition with Outlook Express 6, MSN 5.4.455 & 254-Mb of Memory.

I have tried MSN 8 & have never been able to get it to work on my Computer, which is an IBM Model 2153 E4N.

Hi Donald
I think somehow your setup (preferences) is maybe Bouncing your mail and is blocked at the same time Confused in other word your Email is set up to reject almost everything? coming in or going out. Roll Eyes Or the mail box size is corrupt? needs a reload to remedy?
3rd thing... I did notice that could be a Prob. is the link address for the MSN Mail Have you got a typo on it?
You have it as:
http://oe.msn.msnmauil.hotmail.co/cgi-bin.hmdata
see if this one works?FrownTake the "U" out of MSNMAUIL)
http://oe.msn.msnmail.hotmail.co/cgi-bin.hmdata
I ran a check on the addresses and they are both Non runners Frown

Got a Strong feeling that it is an incorrect address issue on this. Frown
We need somebody to come up with the correct address for you.

Bedstor:

My server was misspelled & I corrected the error but the correction did not record; the server was:

http://oe.msn.msnmail.hotmail.com/cgi-bin.hmdata

The reson yours did not work is because you left the 'm' off of COM.

Thanks for the effort & you are right.

I believe that MSN has changed their server name. When they do that & you have the old setup, there is no way to contact them except through E-Mail & of coarse that does not work.

What kind of problems are you having with it? Does it fail to connect with your mail server? Does the program itself fail to open?

Give this a try:

1) Close Outlook Express

2) Click Start/Find/Files and Folders

3) In the "Named box", type in
folders.dbx
4) Set the search in your C:\ drive

5) When the folders.dbx file is found, select it and then delete it.

6) Open Outlook Express.

Upon opening, Outlook Express will automatically rebuild the folders.dbx file. This often fixes problems caused by a corrupted .dbx file.

I hope this helps!

Dwight:

Thanks for the help.

I did not have a folders.dbx file.

I only had a folder with the name 'folders' followed with a type 'DBX' file.

I deleted the 'Folders' file anyway and then opened Outlook Express but it did not help any.

I finally deleted the Icon I had on the Desktop for Outlook Express. I also deleted Outlook Express from the Find Files.

I then went to the following URL:

http://support.msn.com/searchresults.aspx

When I got the URL I typed in the 'Search MSN Support' line: the following:

'MSN Member Settings' & Entered

I then went to the item No. 21. called 'Setting up e-mail in Outlook Express 5.0, 5.5, 6.0' in the list of 100-items, entered and followed the instructions to reinstall Outlook Express 6.

I am now back in business. I don't know for how long, I'll just have to play it by ear & see how long it last.
