.pdf is a "Portable Document Format". It is meant to be open in Acrobat Reader, a free downloadable program from http://www.adobe.comYou can click "Tool" then "Options" in your Outlook Express. Then click "Security" and set the level from "Restricted" to "Internet". That should allow you to see the attachments. Of course, be very careful about viruses. I encourage you to scan each one before opening with an up-to-date anti-virus program. Dwight [This message was edited by Dwight on 12-31-02 at 03:10 AM.]

If the Norton is set to check incoming email, it will check all attachments as they arrive. Actually, it is not critical to have that option checked, because when you try to open the attached file, it would warn you if a virus were detected. I would recommend having email checker "on" just as an extra precaution.
As for leaving the Outlook Express settings as they are, that is what I do. There is a small added risk of virus infection, but an up-to-date anti-virus program like your Norton reduces that.
As always, use great caution when opening an attachment. If any doubt at all exists, I suggest just deleting the attached file, or contacting the sender and verifying that they did indeed send the attached file.
