My email client won't send or receive. I get this error message:

"Socket Error: 10060 , Port: 25, Protocol: SMTP.A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond."

What does this mean, and how do I get past it?

Thank you, mozart. At that site, I found this:

2. In the SMTP (outgoing mail server) field, you will enter the SMTP server address for your ISP, such as smtp.yourisp.com. You must then enter the username and password for your ISPs mail server. For a list of ISPs and their SMTP server address, please click here.

BTW, "click here" returns a 404 error message.

My confusion comes from something I should have learned a long time ago. I have two email clients, att.net (webmail) and incredimail.com (offline). I don't know which is my "ISPs mail server." Is it att or my incredimail domain name or what the &^%$$^ is it?

What should I be putting in the incoming POP/ outgoing STMP or whatever it is boxes?

Your *POP and *SMTP settings are determined by the Internet Service Provider that you are using. The value depends upon the type of mail account you have. I suggest you contact your ISP tech support or go to their Support Website to get the value you need to use.

*POP (Post Office Protocol - Receive)
*SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol - Send)

Now I am getting this error message:

"Failed to find host.Socket Error: 11004, Port: 465, Protocol: SMTP.The requested name is valid, but no data of the requested type was found."

What does that mean, pray tell?

Plus I am getting the "certificate" error message about every 15 seconds.

Some SMTP require an extra setting to log in for sending. In Outlook you can set this by clicking:
Tools
Email Accounts (or Accounts)
Select your mail accout or click "Change"
Choose More Settings
See Picture

If you're use Outlook Express, post again and I will give you the steps. If you're using a different email program, tell what it is for the steps.

Oh, forgot to say, I have that same "Accounts," authentication, in incredimail, but don't have the "use same settings" option.

I am receiving some messages and are able to send now for some reason, but I am still getting the flashing "bad certificate" warning every few minutes. The program opens itself and shows the certificate warning on top of anything else I am trying to do. The only way I can stop it is to exit the program altogether.

1 piece of Info missing Catty and that is which email service are you using Incredimail with.
The routing is done by the Port Numbers but there are many combinations and some have to have SSL enabled
I made a search and it says many are auto configured. But, in your case , it needs a Manual setup
Use this Search and add your Service onto the Search and it will cut down the Numbers considerably
If all that is Left is just 2 Numbers then we are 99% there
The other 1% is the SSL tick box this will determine you get everything or Its sporadic Like what you said

FYI I don't use Incredimail Have used Yahoo's Very similar Zimbra Desktop Which was quite easy to Operate .Had Yahoo,Gmail and AOL all running into their Separate sections www.zimbra.com/
Note Gmail needed IMAP enabling instead of POP
Otherwise the Setup was identical The "Ports" where automatically chosen bar Yahoo where I had to Manually input the Numbers off the Yahoomail Help page and the Username format took several attempts to get right Frown

CONS Was prone to a few gliches But I had an early version...May be more stable now? Now on version 1.0.3
Um I had version 0.90 Red Face

Catty on the Zimbra Home Page they Now have a non download Trial account to mess around with
www.zimbra.com/products/hosted_demo.php
If you are familiar with Outlook then the Layout will be easy to work with.

I'm sorry, bedstor, I don't understand "which email service are you using incredimail with?" I have ATT as my ISP, and I use its webmail. Incredimail is, of course, an offline email program.

I do have SSL enabled, per ATT tech support.

I'll check Zimbra out, but what I like about incredimail is that you can not only block spam but you can bounce it back as "undeliverable," so you don't get it again. I did buy the Premium version, but have had various problems with it.

Go check out Zimbra now. Thank you!

Whew! Bedstor, that is waaaaay over my head, up there in the stratosphere somewhere. Believe I'll stick with incredimail, which is now working - more or less.

Thank you so much, you are a dear.
